One of my brothers calls his spare room 'the guest bedroom' but we call ours (we have two) 'the front bedroom' and 'the back bedroom'. My other brother calls his 'the junk room'. What do you call yours?
My spare room is called my craft room. Can leave everything out without having to worry about it. Am currently making a crochet cardigan of 156 little granny square. It seems to have come out too small. Lots of upset.!
My American BiL and his wife stayed with us when touring 'the old country' a few years ago. I then found out the difference between having friends to stay and guests. What a pain they were. But when my OH wanted to visit them and spend some quality time with his brother somehow it wasn't convenient. So in future only friends will be welcome to stay in our house, the rest can find a handy B&B or hotel. The other spare room is the nursery with bunk beds for overnighting GC
Movedalot - I hope my relatives and other guests are also my friends! I can't imagine inviting anybody to stay who was not! I always change the bedding after each guest leaves and I have to go into the room quite often as I use the space under the bed to store jig-saws, my roller skates, and the packaging of various items, as you cannot return anything faulty in France unless you have the original packaging.
Like you marelli I call it the wee bedroom and escape there when the snoring begins. In hay fever season when it is particularly bad, OH just goes to sleep there to save me moving in the night.
Marelli Can you not persuade OH to go to the spare bedroom? It's what I do when Betsysgrandad snores too much. Mind you its more of a kick than persuasion!! I can still hear him sometimes though and we don't have thin walls!!
The bedroom. It is spare because I prefer to sleep on my comfortable settee in the living room. Good job I own my flat and it is in France, otherwise I might have to downsize to the balcony.
kitty I agree..I enjoy planning and designing a new space... i want to swap the 'kids' room and the 'computer' room over so will have to project manage that!
nanaej we love the way the rooms are decorated because we rearranged upstairs to accommodate the changing needs of our family and then had the chance to chose for ourselves rather than having to tolerate the children's choices.
kitty you have made me think about decorating the bedrooms ..we moved her 2 years ago and re-modelled and extended downstairs. We slapped a bit of paint in our bedroom as the existing colour clashed with our bed cover! But I was so relieved to have got rid of dust and the smell of paint that I have not got round to thinking about upgrading the 'spare ' rooms..but I should! Autumn project!!
How often do you all go in these 'spare' rooms? I have a friend who used to put pot plants in hers so she had to go in and water them. I only go in when friends have left and I need to change the beds or when friends are coming and I dust etc. We never have 'guests' can't be bothered with them, just friends.
Blue room (double), green room (double), guest room (double), seaside room (small), attic room (huge). They never seem to be 'spare' very often and only one is actually empty at the moment.
Our house is very strange because you can only access the spare room by going through the bathroom. We call it the Miss Havisham Suite because someone could be in there for years an we would never know. Perhaps it should be renamed the Lord Lucan suite
