Should people be forced to go off-line?

I agree! We need saving from ourselves! (no willpower...)

I don't feel guilty, as I have nothing else to do but enjoy myself, and anyway I watch (listen!) to TV or Radio 4 whilst I am surfing.
Gransnet is my equivalent of meeting friends for coffee. (I might not argue as much with my friends, though.)

I wasn't going to switch on this morning but decided to have a peep, 2 hours ago. If I hadn't switched on I wouldn't have seen facebook and that a friend's baby had arrived during the night

And yes I also compare it to an enjoyable coffee morning Greatnan. Thank you for expressing it so well.

I find I switch on "just to check emails" and find myself 2 hours later still sitting here with no work done - oh well, it can always wait until tomorrow - provided I don't get sidetracked again!

There's always something to have a look at, though, isn't there? Between checking what's happened on Facebook - not that anything really does, as I don't post much, but do like to see what others are nattering about. Then, if I have something up for sale on Ebay, I dip in and out of that as well - but spend most of the time on GN! I sit at night, laptop at my side and knitting on my knee, (alternating now and again) as well as 'sort of' watching TV. I was even thinking of getting the vacuum cleaner out just now, but I sat back down again until I felt better....

I'm always going on to Gransnet to see the latest comments. First thing in the morning, last thing at night, loads of times during the day.

It's all so interesting, informative, comforting.

And broadening. As an example, as a result of looking at the photos thread this morning I have downloaded a National Geographic ap onto my ipad and now have two free editions, including one all about Cuba, a country I visited a few years ago and loved.

Facebook - exchange pms with daughter and various grandchildren.

e-mails
Bank account
Joke site - transfer to Gransnet
Weather forecast (important when walking in mountains)
Currency exchange rate
Gransnet
Newspapers
Translation site - I learn a different phrase each day
Catch up on favourite programmes on Radio/TV.

Of course I am not addicted - I just like it!
