Or a daughter whose morning greeting is as likely to be:
If you get expelled from Hogwarts your wand gets broken in half
as anything else.

I don"t need treatment for the teaspoon, do I?

I have an old, very thin, silver teaspoon with ES as a monogram inscribed on it, then a couple of slightly newer ones with BS, then one about 20 years old with US. They are part of my German step- mother-in law's silver, and clearly come from her mother and grand mother. She walked out of what was to become East Germany after the war, and so we know little of her history. Just the silver (and lots of other lovely things), a box of visiting cards (pre war) and the most beautiful pair of opera glasses in an Art Deco type case.

She was a lovely, kind woman and I loved her very much.

I've not got my Coronation teaspoon but I have a set of The Twelve Apostles tea-spoons that my mum had years ago minus one spoon I never ever found out what happened to it,I think mum got the set by sending away so many coupons off something she bought ? may be wrong.

Towards - that's what I do with soup too. Does that make me a pleb?

Anne58 Fri 01-Jun-12 20:45:14

So does that mean that you have to spoon the cereal away from you, or towards you?

Anagram Fri 01-Jun-12 20:40:59

Yes! But it's what I like! grin

Anne58 Fri 01-Jun-12 20:20:59

Anagram, isn't a round spoon a soup spoon?

Anagram Fri 01-Jun-12 20:18:15

I like to eat my cereal with a round spoon. OH prefers the oval ones, but they don't seem right to me!

I have a long handled sundae spoon that ILike to eat my cereal, fruit, and yoghurt for breakfast,my breakfast doesn't taste the same with a big spoon.

The teaspoon that I stole seemed to be exceptionally smoooth, and was therefore perfect for eating my Essential Waitrose chocolate mousse. The texture of the mousse and the spoon seemed to belong together.

The spoon is in my drawer, but I have not bought or eaten the aforementioned mousse since being made redundant, but at the time it did seem important to have the spoon!

I have different mugs for different drinks at different times of day. And different racing mugs for racing days. And I've realised I have to get a union jack mug for Sunday for the first cup of tea of the day. Have just remembered the spoon that we had in the tea caddy when I was a child which had sort of ridges on the end. I haven't got it now, but I do have the caddy. And I have someones prep school knife; he was a university friend of my ex husband..not sure how I ended up with his knife.

I do have a favourite pair of nail scissors which I nicked borrowed from my mother over 50 years ago and never gave back- I don;t think I could use a different pair of nail scissors (wonder what Mum did?) grin

I don't have to stir my tea as I don't have milk and sugar, but I do have a caddy spoon I am attached to as my DS1 made it at school in a metalwork class. I have wooden one with an elephant on top that I use for ordinary tea - the other one is for Earl Grey. I also have a bread knife and bread board bought 47 years ago in Nairobi when I acquired - and had to equip - my own bungalow on our school compound. But I'm not obsessive - not me.

My favourite spoon for yoghourt is the one bought for my first baby son 31 years ago. It has a dolphin on it. I always look for it first in the drawer before making do with another one.

I had a favourite long handled long bladed kitchen knife which I would use for everything and even took it with me if we rented a cottage till the day I left it in the drawer up in GlenLivet, tempted to re-book and see if is still there.hmm

I was so excited to find I am not alone in having a favourite teaspoon!

Anagram Thu 31-May-12 19:42:15

Oh, yes - thanks Greatnan, I'd forgotten those interviews as well! We stopped buying PE soon after Gordon Brown was dispatched - wasn't as funny when the Coalition got in!

DaveQ Thu 31-May-12 19:14:33

My wife uses any knife for anything - can be facinating to watch - but I've only got one egg spoon - it has the perfect end with which to peel soft boiled eggs for brekky!!! Sad eh?
