Neighbours

No neighbours so no problems! Most of the flats in the four blocks are holiday lets and the car park gets full only in the ski season.
The only time I have had problems with nasty neighbours was when we moved to Mold, in North Wales, and met much anti-English prejudice.
In Monaco, France and Belgium I have met with nothing but kindness.

Greatnan I do have quite close neighbours but the layout of houses here mean that I rarely see anyone! As I have recently moved here it is hard to start casual 'hellos' and goodmorning' type conversations to get to know people. Some neighbours were annoyed when we had building work done as one delivery meant driveways were blocked whilst stuff was unloaded (only happened once!!) Anyone think it is worth me being more assertive and actually knocking on a door or two to say hello??

I have an elderly neighbour who delights in shouting his cat and banging a metal spoon on her metal dish after 11 in the evening, just as I am dropping off to sleep! All I can hear is 'HERE PUSS PUSS PUSS DINNERRRRR!!!!'

I sit up in bed and start reading again till it goes quiet. My dog sleeps near my bed and we look at each other with quiet acceptance, then settle down again.

Mine has new fitted wardrobes with those weighted closures that bang!!

Not a lot of fun at 1.30am if in late from a shift ...or 3.45 am if going out for an early shift!! But a nice guy who does pass the time of day when I see him ...so like whenim64 I read again... and say nothing.

I've never (fingers x'd) had problem neighbours, but friends further up the street have a problem with trampolines - one each side and one at the bottom of the garden all as near as possible to her wall. The kids all bounce up and down with gay abandon shouting at each other over my friend's head - it's beginning to drive her mad

My liitle grandsons, 3.1/2, love to jump on their next door neighbour's trampoline so they can see across the gardens and will happily shout 'HELLOOOO, MAN!' when they spot a neighbour doing his garden. They don't give up till he shouts 'hello' back!

(Perhaps not if you're trying to have a relaxing time in your garden, though...)

In the 1970's we had very strange neighbours.
Mrs Strange used to make a big thing of offering our wee son a Digestive biscuit whenever she caught sight of him. One day, he picked a stone out of her newly pebble-dashed wall. She went ballistic ...she called husband and son to witness the fact that a stone was missing [still grasped in wee son's chubby fingers]. We were told NEVER to ask for biscuits in future ...
When the vicar arrived to pick up bag of stuff from our garage for a bazaar, his car straddled the neighbour's side of the drive by a few inches. Someone slammed down the garage door and threatened to keep him in there until he apologised.
The police called one day to ask all neighbours - had anyone witnessed a vandal scratching Mr Strange's new car...we later learned that the culprit was their own son.
Our present neighbour is one of the kindest, funniest, and well respected men in these parts. Thank goodness!

The neighbours we have are all very nice and acknowledge everyone when seen out we are all over 55yrs as it is a Supported Housing development of just 16 apartments,we do have just one lady who would prefer not to engage with what we do during the summer months in the communial garden but everyone to their own,for instance she does not like grandchildren visiting or washing on the line as she thinks it lowers the tone of the development but we all just say good morning and carry on.

nanaej, it might be worth while holding a house-warming party and popping an invitation through every door - if nobody comes you will just have to eat the nibbles yourself!
Are there any neighbourhood activities in which you could join?
It is really unreasonable to complain about the odd delivery, or even the odd party - I think it is the day in, day out noise that gets people down.

nanaej What about suggesting to all the neighbours that you join together for a street party over the Jubillee weekend? That might break the ice (and the nasty remarks) !

when had to smile at your trampline story.

My friend's garden backs onto a house a few doors down from me. When my friends boys were about 8 and 10 yrs old they had a trampoline and the woman they over looked accussed them of spying on her whilst she sunbathed !!!!!

My neighbours have a wood burning stove, I hear the ** door squeak open and shut everytime. Not good when they stoke it up at 6 am..............Buy a can of oil !!!!! Having said that we do get on.
