It's a most relaxing passtime butternut. A few weeks ago I did a day workshop and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mind you, I did find that you need quite strong hand and fingers!! I'm sure to be doing some more in the future and when I'm out walking I am always looking for suitable twiggy pieces to add to the mix!! - different colours etc.

P.S. My current activity is cleaning all our inner doors with spirit and then applying some wood reviver. One problem - the smell is awful so can't do it on a rainy day - need all the windows open!

I'm back home with my little posy basket. Lovely day - it's always so interesting.

gangy - Yes, you do need strong fingers but I used stripped willow bark which I soak before use. It is strong and flexible with a beautiful patina.

We had country dancing at school and I think I remember one dance being called 'Strip the Willow' - it makes sense now.
There is great satifaction in making things, even if they turn out not quite as polished as shop bought items.

Exercising my right to vote. Making use of the car to get to the polling station before DH vanishes in it (the car not the polling station) for the day. I always feel I have no right to moan about government, local or national, if I don't play my small part in the democratic process.

Was hoping to get the lawns (front and back) cut today but thats not happening anytime soon they are squishy and very boggy . So I guess I'll have to play 'puter' a while

Will be going to vote at the village hall, then to a wee lunch-time retiral 'do' of an ex-colleague. Two years ago it was I who was retiring.....where on earth has the time gone? I hope I've not been wasting any of it!

Having another 'Wow' moment - I walked up the side of a waterfall and at the top there was another wonderful, far-reaching view, which I had not seen before. After that, it was 'walking for wimps' as the path just wound round the side of the mountain with no steep climbing, but I did a circular trip of over two hours. It was through a mixed forest - the only sound was the occasional call of a cuckoo once the noise of the waterfall had faded.
I have made a note that it is not too steep, ready for any visitors I might get!

People were cutting the grass today so there was that lovely scent too.
After 18 months, I am still looking for any downside in living here. If my daughter did not live in an equally lovely part of New Zealand and want me to join them, I think I would be here until I got too old to live alone.

Sounds idyllic *GN! Can access pretty walks here too but all looking gloomy at the moment and sloshy underfoot! I was hoping for bluebell walk this week but unless sunny or at least not persistently raining it is looking unlikely!

I look like I have been tangoed, my DGD 4yrs old, got out of bed this morning covered from head to toe in fluorescent orange felt tip pen. Her armpits are the worst it looks like she has applied roll on deodorant. Her face was painted like a clown. ( I must admit she had made a pretty good job of the face painting).

So I have spent best part of an hour trying to rid her of the glow before Nursery and my hands are fluorescent orange, as long as she does not take her clothes off at Nursery she does not look too bad ...... can a 4 yr old be going through the terrible two's as this last week she has been so naughty and so out of character.

glass everyone has to have an experience like that at least once. I took my son aged 3 to playgroup with a drawn pair of glasses still visible on his face - his big brother had told him to sit still while he drew them on the night before and they just wouldn't wash off - took a couple of days.

At least he didn't have a moustache!
