"Forwards"

I have been as guilty as the next person of forwarding "cute" pictures and internet "funnies", but enough is enough. I am now totally sick of not receiving actual communications from people I considered my friends Instead I get trite "words of wisdom" usually with some stupid chain mail envoi and I am on the point of deleting anything which starts with "Fw." without opening it.They are never (OK rarely) as "hilarious" as promised, I have never "laughed my head off" and they just keep coming. Don't we speak to each other any more except in cliches?
And as for Facebook - is it really meant to interest me that somebody has had beans on toast for tea, of has a bit of a cold? (Don't deign to answer any of these questions - they are not worthy of a response) angry

I know what you mean gracesmum about Fw coming without any other words/chat from friends or family ...but I usually open them ...delete or pass some on to those of a similar mind. hmm
I always make sure to delete the "chain" of forwarders though, before I pass on anything. sunshine

gracesmum I'm nodding in agreement with your message. Facebook irritates me [apart from looking in to see grandchildren photos] I cannot be bothered to make an effort to respond to - 'I'm bored!' or 'Still in bed' or so-and-so would like you to participate in some daft game or other. Am I becoming a miserable "old git?"...sad

I do agree I hate these so called funny e-mail chain things. As to Facebook I didn't bother with it until our Slimming World group set up their own group and now we can support each other during the week at no cost. Members post questions, recipes etc which is helpful. Also I have started to learn Italian via the BBC course and that also has a Facebook page. I think people who use this just to tell us if they are up yet are not really getting the best out of the site.

Nearly always delete chain letters without forwarding, unless they particularly tickle my fancy wink

I only have a few facebook friends, and we none of us post very often, but it is quite a good way of keeping in touch with friends who live far away - and the friend who lives in southern Greece can make us all green with envy about the weather!

Always delete.

I always write a polite email ask the sender to delete my name from the list they have for group mails. Sometimes this upsets people but I have to take that risk. I warn them that I don't want my private email address going round the world without my knowledge. As to Face Book. We as a family are not on it nor do I know anyone who is.

I hate the ones that come with the chain letter warning of doom...I always delete and never send on but my superstious side panics every time lol

Still on "original " communication, but moving on slightly to catchphrases we seem to communicate more and more in cliches - anyone agree?

Gracesmum I agree with you about these internet "funnies" particularly when they are regularly sent instead of a newsy e-mail. I don't mind if people close to me send me cute little videos. I do the same. I have been guilty of posting a photo of a perfect poached egg on FB for fun, showing a young work colleague how I had followed her instructions!

I know several people who can't abide Facebook or Twitter but I don't agree. I just ignore the silly little comments and phrases and I block the games but I think that both FB and Twitter are amazing platforms for small businesses, political or other campaigns, getting all sides of a news story and just to see what family and friends are up to.

No not really! Just annoyed with someone who filled up my timeline with her ffs and then again filled with her 'shout outs'. When I unfollowed, she broadcasted it to her world and thought I was very peculiar! I love Twitter!
