Knock knock...Who's there? Hopalong Annie!

Hello to you all. It's been far too long since I last logged on. Thank you so much for your good wishes smile I see that much has happenened in my absence and I send all good wishes and comforting (hugs) to those who have been having a tough time, together with congratulations to GN friends who are celebrating happy events. wine cupcake

First and foremost - An enormous thanks to bagitha She travelled some distance to visit me, and her delightful personality lifted my spirits. As soon as we met, I knew that we were kindred spirits. flowers

So, the surgeon was dishy [apart from which, he was skilled!] I elected to have an epidural, which was a good choice. Although the sounds of the saw, drill and hammer are extremely noisy, I was unperturbed...had a very handsome male nurse with dreamy eyes, holding my hand, which helped. grin wink I did invite them to our party. They thought it a great idea. Before I left hospital, Mr Drummond Mansbridge [surgeon] asked how the party went! I told him that I was surprised that he'd forgotten his enjoyable encounter in the laundry room. He grin grin grin

After the surgery, I felt fine, thanks to several doses of morphine. Weeing into a bedpan without full sensation in the lower torso, has it's interesting moments blush. Thanks to the marvellous nursing team, I was well and truly cosseted. The food was amazing. Have just written an appreciative letter to the hospital. A young trainee nurse was compassionate, good humoured and deserving of special mention. The staff nurse was delighted that I intented writing a separate letter to her, one which she will be happy to include with her CV.

I'm proud to report that I was given a transfusion of Scottish blood grin
Mr S is envious smile. On arriving home, I suffered a massive nose bleed. It was scarey hmm Mr S says that the blood lost, was English.

We travelled home by car, which was a tad uncomfortable. My leg is elaphantine in proportion and all manner of vivid shades of bruising. The clips pull and give me a sharp tweek when I fail to obey the rules of getting from A to B. They will be removed next Tuesday. My crutches can be lethal...especially when the grabber thingy gets twisted in my clothing. From time to time, I blaspheme blush

I'm beginning to ache and feel sore. Best if I sign off for now and take a hoppity, skip and jump around the house. By the way, bagitha has called for a hippy party. She's a hoot. Anyone bringing the wack baccy...

jeni Thu 05-Apr-12 12:39:20

Anagram Thu 05-Apr-12 16:20:35

Oh yes, you're right, jeni!

supernana Thu 05-Apr-12 17:20:53

What a difference all the above have made to my life!!! You are all such super-stars. Quite the best tonic ever concocted. I am sooo lucky.

Now then, I've had a sit-down shower [water water everywhere...] teased hair into a messy beehive...slapped on a hint of war-paint [such a doll] and managed a few boring exercises [using a kitchen cupboard door] whilst lying prettily on my back. [Can you picture it?] No! Please use your well-tuned imaginations. It seems that I'm off to San Fransisco...that's if Mr S can help me step into my psychedelic knickers. Magaritas all round wine Daffs in my hair...couldn't find anything more suitable. Hey...who cares. Wackies at the ready. See you all later grin

Annobel Thu 05-Apr-12 17:43:44

So lovely to have you back, super. You were missed. flowers. The party in your room was a hoot, still not sure who got left under the bed but is wasn't me.
I've just got back from the North West U3a Easter school, just north of Preston at Myerscough College. I had a place on the Creative Writing course. The tutor was none other than Maggie Smith who did a web chat on GN, not so long ago. She told me how much she enjoyed that. She had us working so hard! We wrote and wrote, finishing up today, each reading a story started just yesterday. And we each had to give written feedback to each of the other students. We also had 'fun' exercises such as replying to a 'lonely hearts' ad and then replying to the reply. We met so many interesting people from other U3as all over the North West - meals were accompanied by lively discussion. The first night we had a Gardeners' Question Time and last night a quiz - won by our group (including Maggie herself). The best thing about our CW tutor group was that Maggie made us all believe that we could write. Now I am back home which is a bit of a come-down. Never mind, off to France next Friday. Can't wait!

Butternut Thu 05-Apr-12 17:49:28

Enjoy France Annobel. Very dry but plenty of sunshine today.
Where about are you going to be - hope it's south of the Loire - the weather changes then - for the better usually. grin!

Annobel Thu 05-Apr-12 17:53:17

Yes, Butter. A week in Perpignan and then a few nights in Paris.

Butternut Thu 05-Apr-12 17:59:37

Great combo. Ooh la la! wink

Greatnan Thu 05-Apr-12 18:44:59

Butter, I used to live just South of Perpignan at St.Cyprien Plage. Will you be doing any touring while you are there? There are magnificent views from Canigou.

Greatnan Thu 05-Apr-12 18:54:36

I have enjoyed two days of total idleness - it has been grey and overcast and my eye was sore, so I gave myself a two-day break from walking and lolled on my settee reading, surfing and watching TV. However, I am now full of guilt - damn my catholic upbringing/OCD! smile
I will have to walk for three hours up a very steep track tomorrow.

Grannylin Thu 05-Apr-12 19:33:06

Hope you realise it's Good Friday! Do you remember suffering the stations of the cross......oh no, not back to religion again!
