I have just followed a tweet from Grannynet (first time I have been over there) asking if Gransnet are taking product testing too far sending out samples of lubricants. grin Have a look.

I have been to have a look at Grannynet and decided to register - I had not realised it is related to Babycentre, which my daughter and I found invaluable when she was expecting her twins. I think it is a shame that one or two people on both sites decided to make negative comments and create some ill-feeling - I hope they realise these comments do not represent all of us - it is another provision for grans and the more the merrier. I will be joining in their forum discussions as well as coming on here. Rivalry should be engendered where it is needed, not between groups of grandparents, surely?

Butternut Sun 11-Mar-12 09:16:42

You've encouraged me to take a look, Carol. Thanks! smile

Mishap Sun 11-Mar-12 09:25:31

Thank you for your balanced comments Carol - my sentiments entirely.
I go onto both sites and always find something of interest. They are both working to serve the interests of grandparents and that has to be good.

If two anonymous websites with similar aims cannot get by together, what price world peace!?

This thread is sooo funny, you girls really cheer me up !!
Better than a Sarah Millican DVD !! grin grin

Ok ..so because I am basically a nosey cow....I succumbed and looked ...then (she whispers) ...Joined.
You will certainly recognise my ''alter ego''
Should be fun !!!!!!

Nsube Sun 11-Mar-12 09:55:20

I haven't been a member very long and not much idea what this is all about. I've only ever posted a few comments, but I must say some of the remarks on this thread make for unpleasant reading. Happily, Carol has brought some wisdom to this. But it's very off putting for new members. I hope it all stops.

Annobel Sun 11-Mar-12 10:12:15

I'm staying out of this. I had a look but decided that one forum is enough for me. I like it here - feel 'at home'. sunshine

wotsamashedupjingl Sun 11-Mar-12 10:17:27

Nsube trying reading it with a smile on your face. sunshine

They are cowardie custards, pulling the thread.

Scaredy Marys! shock

grin

wotsamashedupjingl Sun 11-Mar-12 10:19:51

At least I haven't received any 'visitor messages', so they can't hate me to much.

I'm probably still allowed on! [smug]

wotsamashedupjingl Sun 11-Mar-12 10:20:15

too !!!! blush

Nsube Sun 11-Mar-12 10:20:21

I expect I'm very slow of understanding, but I have no idea what that means. I just think that mutual respect is a good idea.

Faye Sun 11-Mar-12 10:22:20

I think it is all a laugh. I like being on the opinionated troublemaker thread, it's more fun. I am sure they are all very nice Carol, except maybe the one who called us names. grin

Annobel Sun 11-Mar-12 10:30:12

How many of 'them' are 'us', just wearing different hats - or twinsets?

Nsube Sun 11-Mar-12 10:30:23

I've noticed that whenever someone is hurt, the excuse given by the person whose thoughtless words have caused the hurt, is that it's 'lighthearted'.

wotsamashedupjingl Sun 11-Mar-12 10:33:33

I don't reckon they'll let any new members join for at least a fortnight, just in case! grin

nanachrissy Sun 11-Mar-12 10:33:49

Anyone seen a sense of humour around here?

Carol Sun 11-Mar-12 10:33:51

Yes, I'm sure they are too, Faye, and I don't think they are proud of the posters who made such negative comments. I can only speak for myself, but I felt very uncomfortable when I read postings on here retaliating with more of the same.

It IS fun on Gransnet, and being opinionated is fine with me, but I struggle with the 'troublemaker' label. It doesn't apply to 99.9% of us, either here or on Grannynet. Peace smile

Carol Sun 11-Mar-12 10:36:47

Annobel there's quite a few of us over there - so easy to recognise, and saying the same as we do on here. I do like their glittery icons, too!

grrrranny Sun 11-Mar-12 10:37:16

I've had a look and it is too fluffy bunny for me. My youngest GC is 7 and eldest 19 with 3 in between and it looks too cosy (all that pink) baby goo goo stuff. I like the troublemakers on here and, if someone is upset by a comment, it is usually sorted out in the end.

glammanana Sun 11-Mar-12 11:23:28

I have been registered with them for a while but always found GN more fun and stimulating conversation, but I am sure they have them aswell, only problem I'm finding is that I can't access any forums as they are saying my user/password are incorrect and I know they are not so maybe I have been xcommunicated ? or maybe my profile and answer to the questions don't add up !!

Hankipanki Sun 11-Mar-12 12:37:06

Thank you for the sanity carol I am on both sites too and like them both.

I also agree with*Nsube*, being fairly new to this site I sometimes find the comments off putting and hesitate to join in a discussion.

It feels as if this site has been hijacked by a few members who may or may not be representative of everyone who uses this site.

As for the negative comments referred to I have read far worse on here.

jeni Sun 11-Mar-12 12:54:55

I suggest that anyone who is upset by some of the more lighthearted of us stay off those threads and stick to the more serious ones where they are happier? smile that way no one will be upset! Chacon a son goute. ( I think I got the French right? )
I for one hate discord. There is quite enough of it in the world already. Nothing that is said is meant maliciously, so far as I am aware!
Regard it more as kittens playfightinggrin

absentgrana Sun 11-Mar-12 12:58:25

It is a shame if new members feel uncomfortable and I hope they won't hesitate to join in any discussions that they find interesting. While some Gransnetters post very frequently (I am certainly one of them), others post infrequently although they often follow the threads. Gransnet been like that since the beginning – last May – and no one has hijacked it or, indeed, could hijack it.

Nsube Sun 11-Mar-12 13:06:17

Hankipanki, it's good to read your comment. I joined this site as I thought it would be a support for grandparents. My user name is my village in Africa. And there, grandparents were ladies with wisdom and understanding and were the ones heal the arguments.

Annobel Sun 11-Mar-12 13:12:00

Nsube, I see this site as being supportive and lighthearted, as appropriate. If someone raises a serious subject it is treated as such and we do not put each other down. Although we may disagree, we can agree to do so.

Elegran Sun 11-Mar-12 13:14:55

Some of it is joshing between posters who have known each other for a long time and recognise when the other(s) is/are being genuinely critical and when just teasing cheekily. After a very short while, new posters soon know who not to take too much to heart, but t is not always obvious at first!

If there were a "jester's hat" icon to wear when not being entirely serious it would help. That is, if we remembered to put it on.

Certain people would be wearing it permanently.
