Where is everyone? I know I'm not the only insomniac; been awake since 3.00 and I'm now bored....

bagitha Tue 27-Dec-11 12:26:40

Sitting down with a wee baby on your knee sounds like the right way to go, carol. All the best for tomorrow and number two as well. (Of course, they're both number one really!) smile

green, I hope you're resting! Keeping going when you're dog tired is counter productive. xx

supernana Tue 27-Dec-11 12:21:54

harrigran Oh dear! I'm catching up on what's been happening since I last wished everyone a merry festive season. I'm sorry to hear about your fall. Trust that you are been well cared for by DH. On one occasion, several years ago, I was in Truro hospital, recovering from surgery. I attempted to clean the shower before exiting it. Well, I slipped, reached out for something to hold on to, ripped the soap dish from the tiled wall and worse, the shower head went into a whirling-dervish spin and flooded the bathroom floor. When the doctor was called he shook his head at the chaotic state of the bathroom. When he examined my head, he discovered a huge egg-shaped lump...possibly the remnants of my brain. confused

Carol I am so happy for you that little twin is coming home tomorrow x

Carol Tue 27-Dec-11 12:10:32

Sounds like your body is telling you to relax and take care of yourself green. Can you have a day of doing the minimum?

I'm entertaining family today, but it's a buffet that is a higgledy-piggledy assortment of everything in the fridge and cupboards. Leftover turkey made into a pie with brocolli, potatoes and a sauce, lots of pigs in blankets, prawns in croutades with a ready made sauce, Gu chocolate pots, cakes, mince pies, nuts, salad etc and no-one will be very hungry anyway.

When I think of previous years that have involved crack of dawn frantic baking and fancy dessert concoctions being made, I don't know why I put myself through it - it's not a competition. We can have some sophisticated meals at other times, when I'm not drained from all the Christmas run-up and tension between acrimonious exes trying to spoil other people's Christmas.

Today, I will point my family at the groaning table and tell them to help themselves whilst I pop my new grandaughter on my knee in a corner, and think wistfully of her little twin coming home tomorrow. Happy days x

bagitha Tue 27-Dec-11 11:42:00

Yes, take a break, green. I'm certain you deserve one! xx

syberia Tue 27-Dec-11 11:00:50

greenmossgiel only do what you need to do. Take time to be kind to yourself. I know it is hard to stop the worries creeping in, but that's the time you need to be gentle on yourself thanks

greenmossgiel Tue 27-Dec-11 10:04:58

Been awake since 4am. Went to loo, got back in bed to trumpeting snores from him beside me....Tried to read, but snoring was disturbing that and my mind was drifting constantly to 'worrying' things. Got up, sat in living room with slippery eiderdown over me and Daisy the cat who thought she heard a mouse in the skirting board. Gave up on my book. Made a banana loaf from bananas which had gone that 'greyish' colour, then some tomato and lentil soup. I'm now 'running on empty' - tired but need to keep going....confused

Break a bit off my gingerbread house if you like, grossi. DD3 decorated it all by herself. Some of the icing cement looks as if it was applied with a trowel. Tastes good though grin.

Grossi Tue 27-Dec-11 08:19:45

It's nice to see that a few of you are around to join me for tea or coffee. Perhaps we could even find some biscuits?

I have plenty of work to do bagitha, but as you can see, I'm not making very good use of my time.

I think I'd better get busy now though!

Oxon70 Tue 27-Dec-11 08:05:30

I'll have a cup of coffee, thanks.
I woke at 7 after an eight hour sleep...big relief, as yesterday I was struggling after 4 hours. A very usual pattern.
I think I've now recovered from Christmad Day at my daughter's!
(Left the mistake in here, I think it's subconscious)

Now maybe I will tidy up. - since noone else lives here, I left the Christmas paper on the floor, because the cat was using it for a bed, all day yesterday, and I didn't want to disturb her.
And today I intend to eat better. I ate sandwiches and Christmas pudding (and chocolate) yesterday, as I was tired and have a fridge full of leftovers. I think my daughter plans food partly so that people can take some home!

Well, that was a nice cuppa.
Think I'll pop over to see how the panto preparations are getting on.

bagitha Tue 27-Dec-11 07:51:50

Yes please, grossi. Weak with milk for me, please. Ta very much! That's just what I needed. Are you expecting a busy day at work?

Faye Tue 27-Dec-11 07:42:23

Good morning Grossi, I am actually drinking a cup of tea at this moment brew but it early evening here now.

Grossi Tue 27-Dec-11 07:26:00

I'm up and at work -- there are two of us here so far.

I left the rest of my family, even 2-year-old grandchild, asleep at home.

Anyone else care to join me for a cup of tea?brew

harrigran Mon 26-Dec-11 23:40:25

DS loaned DH his walking stick and now he is hobbling about.

grannyactivist Mon 26-Dec-11 14:55:45

harrigran glad that you're not too sore today. Obviously you and your husband need to sit down and put your feet up for a couple of days. Have some brew and cupcake and relax.

harrigran Mon 26-Dec-11 09:40:29

Thanks everybody, I am very stiff but strangely not a bruise. The hip is very sore and uncomfortable to sit on. DH trumped me by twisting his knee whilst playing with GD2 yesterday and now can not do anything.

nanachrissy Mon 26-Dec-11 09:35:36

Not up until 9....rare treat. Took those mild anti histamine tablets that help to relax as I've had so many migraines that sleep was eluding me!
Off to my dd's today. Sil is out at football tonight and golf all day tomorrow, so we can have girly giggles, dd,dgd's and me.

Ariadne Maniac, I thought Downton was really good too! That fight scene was quite realistic.

Have a good Boxing day everyone xxx

Carol Mon 26-Dec-11 09:15:22

Up at 8.30 am - it's such a rare occurrence, but son stayed over last night and was in bed very late, took dog out for me after midnight, so she was snoring gently in his room when I woke. Make a nice change to have a lie-in like that.

Oxon70 Mon 26-Dec-11 09:04:10

Light, more light! (who said that?) ........I look forward to that.
You lucky lot sleeping until 8.
I may get dressed now.

bagitha Mon 26-Dec-11 08:50:08

Good morning, insomniacs! I slept in till 0800. Only happens in winter. Sunrise in a few minutes in this part of the world and two minutes earlier every day till midsummer now! smile

Ariadne Mon 26-Dec-11 08:27:17

Good morning! This must be a record - woke up at 8.00! DH still snoring gently, and there's no sounds yet from anyone else. Off to Devon today; we spent Christmas here with Ds and DDiL. Maniac wasn't "Downton" good?

Oxon70 Mon 26-Dec-11 08:27:00

Yes, have a good Boxing Day everybody.
I may yet go back to sleep in the chair.....

Maniac Mon 26-Dec-11 07:40:49

I'm up too. Agree there's nothing much on TV during the night if one is having sleep problems.
Son came for Xmas lunch(a bit weepy, missing his son),popped into neighbour's for pre lunch drink.otherwise home alone with sole use of remote control!!
Enjoyed Downton and Victoria Wood

Happy Boxing day

Oxon70 Mon 26-Dec-11 05:43:30

I'm up too, been watching TV,although there's nothing to watch! My cat is awake too, she's been scoffing chopped turkey giblets donated by my neighbour yesterday!
I think too much rich food...(yum, though)...and one drink have thrown my sleep off for tonight....it's happened before - I am still processing the happenings of yesterday too.
I'm making many corrections here - tired and can't spell!

Annika Mon 26-Dec-11 04:38:22
