DH and I are having our usual silent stand-off to see which one of us will crumble first. (I put the electric "stove" on when we sit down in the evenings!)
DS coming home for a couple of days leave today. He will be vocal!
Used to use a hot water bottle but I woke up one night thinking I'd wet the bed, it had burst.. I now have an electric blanket which I love. I haven't put the heating on timer yet just on as and when. However, I think the timer will be implemented soon.
More hugs for Elegran - I'm certainly surprised by your revelations, you always come across as so strong and compassionate. I never realised that you had such problems. You're in my thoughts x
Our heating is completely automatic. Somehow the boiler (although it's not actually a "boiler" it's something much more complicated and technical than that!) knows when the weather changes (average temperatures etc) and turns itself on. Big plus of this system is that the house never gets really cold as it only drops a few degrees overnight. Therefore when I get up for a loo trip in the early hours, the house is not bitterly cold. I still like an electric blanket though as I hate getting into a cold bed. I've had my electric blanket for yonks - wonder if I should replace it for safety reasons
Hugs Elegran and maybe for you and both. Now as you suggest I'll get back to central heating, but I am thinking of you,
I've been trying to hold off putting ours on (trying to cut down on cost) and have succeeded until yesterday when I did give in for an hour or so. We live in the south west and it's much milder here than most other places but I can't stand being cold, neither can DH since having a heart condition.
Decided to buy an electric blanket today, had one years ago and for some reason stopped using it. They've changed so much, this one is washable, you can leave it on all night, several different heat controls and cost 1p - 2p a night to run. Looking forward to going to bed tonight
Thank you so much, all of you. You are so full of support. I did not mean to get onto the subject (plenty of other things to post about) but Jingly said "Oh dear" and I started to explain.
Glammanana, how can you feel you were awful when you were just continuing on what went before? I was the one who put the gloom into the thread, not you.
Elegran oh I did not mean to sound so awful it was meant in jest,as it is a standing joke in this house that the men alway's wash and dry the dishes,and the girls put their feet up,I wish my DH walked around the block with me it would do him more good than going everywhere by car.Hugs for you and x
Elegran you are a star and a tower of strength - my thoughts are with you and your DH and I wish you happy days for as long as fate permits - and put that heating on or off just as you like - live for today and let the future take care of itself. {{{HUG}}}
Nannysgetpaid please keep on posting about everything - it is great to read what all the Gnetters are doing. Neither DH nor I are sitting around thinking how miserable life is. We do whatever makes us happy and ignore what may (will) come. No point weeping twice over, before the event as well as during it.
I know perfectly well that in a matter of months (maybe years if I am lucky) I shall have to restructure my life, but I also know that it is possible to do, because I have friends who have done so, as well as all the strong ladies on GN.
Oh Elegran I was just going to post about freezing in my office and all about various children & grandchildren in hospital. Feeling really sorry for myself. Having read your post I know that you need a big hug much more than me. Take care xxx
Yes, Jingly, I don't make an issue of it but the future is not bright. But day-to-day everything is OK, we see family and friends, the GP calls fortnightly and so does a lovely community nurse from the hospice (alternate weeks). We get out in the car and we walk round the block or to the nearest shop if the weather is good. No immediate problems at the moment, except the knowledge that it will not last.
We've had more than 48 good years. So far so good.
glammanan He used to, but now is no longer up to it - he gets very tired if he stands for too long. He does sort of move things to one end of the table, nearer the dishwasher, before he goes off to sit down again. It is not the circulation that is failing, it is more serious stuff.
We do try to walk round the block every day, but it is starting to get colder and wetter outside and walking against the wind is just not on.
