If anyone has read this book, and enjoyed it, it is currently being serialised on Netflix. We watched all 4 episodes last night. I found it very moving and well acted.

Wonderful book, but so-so Netflix series in my opinion there was just too much to try to squeeze into the tv series. Also, it starts near the end of the book, then tries to cover the past by flashbacks.
Better to just read the book as is often the case.

Saw the Netflix series and really liked it, but haven't read the book. My DH has listened to the audio book and said it went on for a bit too long for his liking. I've got the book but have only.read the first few pages then gave up. Maybe I need to stick with it?

I like to read the book first before watching the film.

So do I Patsy. Then I can complain about the film adaptation which I usually do!!!However, the adaptation was good and kept to the book without the usual temptation to mess with the original.

Yes, I thought the adaptation was really good, so thoroughly enjoyed the film too.

I loved both the book and the series. DH and I read the book quite a few years ago just before a trip to France. It was lovely to see St Malo, knowing more of the history of the city.

So it was likely 6 years between reading the book and watching the series. I knew the ending was different, but couldn't quite remember the details of the book. However, I know that it is hard to condense a thick book into a 4 part series, so gave the producers and writers credit for entertaining us while still mostly sticking to the plotline.

One small thing that bugged me...watching an American actor (Mark Ruffolo) playing Daniel LeBlanc fake an English accent while acting as a Frenchman. Just why?

I was given Cloud Cuckoo Land for Christmas by my daughter in law who thought I would like it. I am a few chapters in, but can't get properly involved. Nobody seems to act in a normal way. The characters are very unrelatable. Any hints as to how to approach it?
