I bought this jacket from East over 40+ years ago and I am still wearing it in the summer. It is 100% cotton, a little faded but I think it will see me out 😀

What is your oldest item ?

A Laura Ashley cotton summer all-in-one I bought in around 1980. They are all the fashion this year and I dug it out and wore it during the recent heatwave.

A pair of shoes I bought in the early 1990s, and still wear regularly, I have uite a number of items which are 10 or 20 years old.

My mac that I bought in the early 1990’s.

I recently threw away some iridescent purple doctor martens that I'd had since my teens, so probably about 48 years old.
Something sharp had reared it's head inside them, but more was the fact that i found them just too heavy and it hurt my back, wearing them.

I sleep in a cotton traders t-shirt which was purloined from my husband about 37 years ago. Few tiny holes appearing now but I’ll repair them. He’s in and out of hospital, so that t-shirt is a bit of a substitute 😁

A Shetland cardigan/jacket that OH bought me in 198? He lost his. I do find it a bit heavy to wear round the house.

Might need to get it out again the way the weather is going here in North Scotland.

My oldest is a baby still compared to some of these!
It is a powder-blue autumn/spring- weight jacket bought from Matalan some time in the 1990s, I think. It has been through my washing machine many times and still looks to have plenty of life left in it.
Most importantly, I still really like it, and am not the least bit tempted to replace it!

I took these shorts on holiday to France when my son was 6/7 he’s 50 next week I still wear them in the garden and they fit better now than they did. A bit thin around the backside but still decent enough.

I don’t hang onto clothes but I do have boots from the 90,s that I bought in Glasgow on Boxing Day with money my mil gave me .Brown knee high leather with a plaited strip down the outside a 3 and a half inch heel and an almond shaped toe .
I do still wear them ….and brown is back in fashion.
The only other thing in my wardrobe that’s older than 4 years is my 51 year old wedding dress ,brought down from the attic for a gd to wear in a school play

Quite a few things in my wardrobe that are at least 30 years old. Shoes, handbags, dresses, skirts, tops. All still in good condition and very wearable. I find buying clothes now not only expensive but just never seem to find the styles or quality that match up to what I already have.

I’ve still got my electric blue shiny lycra skinnies, which were a Cosmo offer in about 1977. I was in a glam rock phase, and I can’t quite bring myself to part with them. I don’t wear them, obviously!

1920's (I think) Opera-type Coat.
Inherited. Never quite fell out of use. Wore it a fair bit as a student (!) and subsequently with more care as heavily beaded!

Also a 1950s velvet swing coat. Also Inherited.

My oldest item of clothing is a handbag which was my mother’s, for her wedding day in 1939. I don’t use it though.

My own items go back many years. I have lost their birth certificates. I have a blouse which makes a nice lightweight jacket, bought from C & A, Sixth Sense, however many years ago that was. I have items too smart for normal wear, going back over 20 years.

Three very glam ballgowns from the 1950/60's from my MIL. Have worn them all at various Hallowe'ens. Come dressed up, they said, so I did.

I miss our East shop, and would wear that jacket NanKate.

A summer outfit of top and skirt bought in Bourne & Hollingsworth’s closing down sale whenever that was. I loved it and wore it a lot but I’m a different shape now so can’t wear it any more!😢

A M&S semi cropped cardigan with large different coloured buttons. It’s in brown/cream/blue/maroon thin stripes. Sounds as if it doesn’t match but I love it. It’s been washed hundreds of times and is lovely and soft but I feel it’s too shabby to wear out now, just wear it in the house and garden.

Not sure exactly how old but around 25-30 years I would think. Also have pashminas ( I have many!) half of which are pretty old and I still keep buying more.

1960s Burberry trench coat given to me by an Aunt in 1980. I used to wear it a lot, but less frequently now.
I still have my wedding dress, with shoes and going away suit. (52 years old) They look about size6! No chance of getting into them now. 😂

Jaxjacky Tue 02-Jun-26 15:03:55

Oldest probably a pair of boots bought in Sainsbury’s twenty odd years ago, tan with a an inside zip, cost £30, still worn. I only keep stuff I wear, even my wedding outfit is long gone.

DancingDuck Tue 02-Jun-26 15:12:42

I think my oldest item is a pair of special edition Converse high tops from early 1990's !

dalrymple23 Tue 02-Jun-26 15:30:24

I recently discovered some of my mother's clothes (she was born around 1908) - a leather car jacket, a suede waistcoat, an embroidered waistcoat.

Discovered my wedding dress (yards and yards of wild silk), a couple of ball gowns, cocktail dresses (remember those?!), two pairs of Chelsea Cobbler boots - one knee length snakeskin, the other thigh length black leather and a handbag bought on the Champs Elysee in the mid sixties!!

No wonder we have no room to move!!

A white cotton smock top with embroidery round the neck and puffed sleeves from the late sixties/early seventies, a bit discoloured in places but still ok, I don’t wear it anymore but one of my DDs did with a pair of vintage jeans when in her early twenties.

Grannynannywanny Tue 02-Jun-26 15:48:05

My grandchildren love looking at old family photos of when they were little. My 19 year old granddaughter recently noticed that in one of her toddler photos I still have the long cardigan I was wearing then.

She’s very much into recycling/upcycling and was impressed. She was even more impressed when I told her I bought it when her 48 year old mum was a was a child 😆

I have 2 of them, a blue and a green. I think I bought them in C&A. They are a sweatshirt type material and they seem to be indestructible. I still wear them round the house and in the garden.

Aldom Tue 02-Jun-26 15:52:13

A navy blue cashmere coat, classic style. Purchased in 1976. Still smart and in lovely condition.

Frenchgalinspain Tue 02-Jun-26 15:56:21

A Carolina Herrera plush black velvet ankle length coat with padded shoulders ..

Very New Year´s Eve !!
