Cats and fleas.

By far the simplest method for my two is the drops that you apply to the skin on the back of their neck. I buy mine online with worm treatment administered in the same way (but not at the same time)

I have 2 flea allergic cats who get dermatitis and will groom themselves sore so I have to be on top of it.

I use credelio tablets, I get the prescription from my vet and buy online to save money. These tablets are amazing. I can't recommend them more. 2 cats I adopted as kittens went from flea infested to nothing in 24 hours

We have one cat we can't use the drops on. Not because he's allergic to them or anything, they just run off his thick fur no matter how we try to get them onto his skin.

So we tend to use tablets. We had some from the vet which were very good but very big. We use the stuff that you wrap the pills in to get him to take them.

I`ve tried 2 different back of the neck treatments, neither worked very well, and our vet says the over the counter ones aren`t very good. I`ve now got Billy on the one provided by the vet, back of the neck, but only once every 3 months. It isn`t cheap, but it seems to be working.

I use diatomaceous earth (the food grade version) for flea and worm prevention. I won't have nasty chemicals in my house. I once used Frontline on a cat - resulting in a staggering, confused animal, with, later, a bald patch where it had been applied!

Our current cats don't go out, we had to promise the breeders they wouldn't before they would sell them to us, but previous ones wore flea collars and lost all the fur underneath them, for good. I certainly would avoid the flea collars!

I use Credelio tablets from the vet, one tablet a month.

I put the liquid flea treatment behind their necks every 6 months and it seems to work ok. My objection is the price- very expensive here.

Treat the house - get a spray from the vets and treat the entire house room by room.

Then tackle the animals.

I use Stronghold Plus for my cats, applied monthly to the back of the neck. They have never had fleas since starting, a few years ago now. I didn't find the Frontline products as effective. My vets have a VIP scheme which, for a monthly fee, provides flea and worm treatment as well as a discount on consultations.
I agree with Hellogirl that over the counter treatments are less effective, probably weaker.

I used a flea collar for my indoor cat but she didn't much like it and tried to get it off several times. I also regularly searched for fleas in her fur (which she seemed to tolerate well) and cracked them between my thumbnails when found. They move pretty quickly but one can move faster!

I haven't seen any fleas on him or on his bed/sofa. Thank you for all the replies. I'm going to buy the spot on drops for now.

Don`t buy Frontline or Advantage, they`re hopeless!

I used Bravecto, lasts three months and prescribed by the vet.
He was very poorly for a few days afterwards. So not using it again.

Please dont use Bravecto - do research it on internet. Dont consider Bob Martin anything. Have you seen any fleas? If so you will need to deflea your house with something like Indorex aerosol spray, vacuum everywhere and wash animal bedding treat your cat. Buy inforex from internet as it is lots cheaper than from vet.

Bravecto is what I use now, prescribed by the vet, Billy has been OK so far.

My cat has an injection at the vet which lasts for 6 months. It’s called Program.

Admittedly he’s a dog😄, and now 14 years old, but just before he came to us as a ten week old pup, our two cats died within weeks of each other and I’d always battled with fleas. So in preparation for the pup I completely sprayed the house.

He has never had a flea in his entire life.

And just to add, neither have we ever used any anti-flea preparation on him. So chemical free as well!
