C & A Modes

I remember there was a bargain basement in the Church Street Liverpool store.Also the Clockhouse range.My friend and I used to go on a Saturday too.

I loved C&A in the 80’s. Was their “dressier” slightly more expensive range called Sixth Sense?

Also maybe a Yessica label?

Was it Sixth Sense, Mazgg?

I still have a beaded jumper, not worn it for years but can't throw it away.

I'm wearing a C&A jumper today🤣 Obviously not a classier one as it just says C&A on the label.

C&A is still trading in Europe!! Have visited in Holland and when we lived in Spain I used to shop there frequently - mainly for my DGS.

I have a couple of items I still wear. One is a sparkly jumper. Lost count of its age.

I had a Saturday job in C&A. I earned 14s 6d for the day. I think there are some C&As in some cities. I seem to recall one in Seville a few years ago.

I think the more “up market” range was Sixth Sense.

I love C&A and always check out if they have a branch if I’m abroad on holiday.

I’ve had a rummage and I still have long linen(ish) skirt from the 80’s with the Yessica label. I loved it with its matching top. No idea why I still have as it’s not been worn in 20 odd years.

The first chance I had of more fashionable teenage clothes after the rather boring stuff we wore in the 1950s!

When I lived in Holland ('60's) there was a wonderful C&A in my local Centrum. On the top floor was an aviary, full of beautiful birds. My little son loved to go to see them. The clothes were from Italy and France. Well made, lovely fabrics and excellent design.
In the' 70's, living near Chester where there was a C&A, I bought a cashmere and wool coat in navy blue. I still have that coat. Very smart and still as good as new.

Bought my “wardrobe “for college at C&A way back when. We had to go to Leeds which was an adventure as I had never been before. I got some trendy wide leg brown trousers, a blue check shirt and a yellow Orlon jumper. My Mum insisted that I got a very “smart” (in her eyes) checked coat, that I hated, because she wanted me to look like a teacher as she put it. The Orlon jumper stretched beyond wearing the first time that I washed it as the water was the wrong temperature!

Opus label is coming to mind now. I wonder if that was a C&A name or perhaps my other favourite shop BHS?

C&A is still going strong in most European countries.

I worked at the Marble Arch Oxford st branch as a teenager it was great as i got a discount on my clothes even got my wedding dress there. I had such a great time as a teen having access to all the new styles. Working there i earnt £4.10s a week.

Whenever I was in Berlin, I shopped in both C&As and never came home empty handed. I loved it.

When I was sixteen, my mum bought me a brown maxi coat for £10, from C&A in one of the Glasgow branches. I knitted a yellow cloche hat to go with it, I thought I looked wonderful!!!
