Travel insurance USA

maytime2 My OH tried Nationwide a few years ago and there was an additional payment needed of £245. That was before covid so their “free” coverage isn’t what it seems.
Of course since covid the goalposts have changed and prices have skyrocketed.

My sister changed her bank account to Nationwide as they provide Insurance until the age of 80. She had been quoted £1,700 for a 14 day Caribbean cruise by a local insurance broker. Apparently the Caribbean is classed the same as the US for insurance purposes.

I bank with Lloyds and also have insurance until the age of 80. I do pay a premium because of my A.F. but it is still much much cheaper than any of the one off type of insurance,

NotSpaghetti. It actually sounds too good to be true. That’s why I’m confused. No point in paying if claims don’t get settled.

You will get there. I think £668 is a bargain for 2. Check the details.
My son pays more than that each month in America!

Travel insurance to include the USA is a nightmare - so expensive, it’s like taking an extra person on the trip. May I ask Maydonoz. where she got insurance for £39? At 70, I’m beginning to think I’ll never see The Big Apple again.

Got a quote for £1200 for both of us but not for the correct dates, they won’t quote for November and the coverage is less.
Medical £5million instead of £15 million ?. Silly money really, it becomes meaningless when the figures are so high.

Problem is I am 72 and OH is 75. Our bank used to give us travel insurance free (HSBC Premier account) but only up to the age of 70.
The best quote we have up to now is £1,400 for the two of us.
Eye watering, so still looking.
Incidentally we are both in excellent health. OH had a stent fitted many years ago which may have upped the premium. No way are we travelling without insurance.

We have annual travel insurance tacked on to the home & lifestyle insurance for worldwide coverage, £ 250 for both of us, you have to declare any medical issues. Doesn’t sound expensive for all trips

I would recommend Aviva, they were very good many years ago (year 2000) when DH and I went to the US.
Thankfully we had taken out a medical Insurance, as the day after we landed in New York, DH had a heart attack in the street. Fortunately we got to hospital quickly by taxi, with him lying down in the back.
The medics were great and a few days later he had a cardiac stent fitted.
Everything turned out ok and we were able to return on our planned flight.
It was the best £39.00 we ever spent, God knows what the hospital bill came to, we never did get to find out.
The insurance company even called our GP to check for previous history before paying.
I wish you a great trip, just make sure you get good medical cover.

I need to get asthma taken off my medical notes, my wheeziness over 30 years ago was caused by allergies to our cat not asthma! But when i get travel insurance I’ve had to pay a small premium because I have three ailments listed - asthma, psoriasis and high blood pressure. Now though I also have to declare blood thinners following a recent TIA and I suspect my insurance will be more expensive and involve phone calls rather than buying online as it looks as if I have four medical conditions. Time to get my medical notes up to date!

Unless you have absolutely no health issues you will probably have to speak direct to a Travel Insurance Company, they will need a complete list of all medications etc.
We used Saga in the past but will have to get new Insurance as our annual one has lapsed.
