This just came up on my Facebook News Feed and I thought it may add to the discussion....

I am assuming they were happy to take pain relief prescribed for them, which could possibly have been tested on animals during clinical trials.

As for wellies - they are man-made too.
I still have a vision of a clog maker sitting carving clogs, and I understand they can be very comfy.

And I think most fleeces come from recycled plastic
I think I asked on another thread what happens when garments, garden furniture etc etc come to the end of their useful life - does anyone put a fleece in with the plastic to be recycled - what does one do with them?

OldMeg because fleeces vary so much in quality I think only certain ones can be used for clothing, others for items such as carpets - but I agree with you; why can't the rest of the fleeces which may not be suitable for clothing, furnishings etc be used for insulation in homes, making duvets, etc. Why are duvets made from sheep's wool so expensive?

I can't suggest anything really djen that's why I am asking; did you read the original post about the vegan couple who will not wear anything man-made either?

I was curious about what they wear on their feet if not shoes made by man (or woman) especially in a chilly part of the world, as vegan shoes must have been made using some type of a process by man (or woman).

If we were all vegetarians or vegans there would be no animals in fields. Farmers don't keep animals just to make the countryside look nice. Where would our children and grandchildren get to know about animals - zoos are taboo too now!

Sorry Wilma I was trying to answer in the same vein, as I had just taken out a couple of carrots to cook along with broccoli and peas.

My point was that this couple eschew manmade materials but put aside their principles when having their baby.

I am not criticising anyone's choices, just interested as we have vegetarians in the family but no vegans; I would not want any vegans to start feeling defensive.

Jalima wrt the manmade thing, what I meant is that the couple I'm aware of won't use anything not natural, rather than not man-made. Obviously even clothes made from cotton are made by (wo)man! Btw, when we lived in Africa, local people wore footwear made from old tyres, which I assume are still made from rubber.

Ah, so they probably wear manufactured shoes which would be waterproof!
Thanks SueDonim, I had visions of them walking barefoot in the snow or carving wooden clogs (which, of course, I can remember people wearing when I was young!).

I guess so, Jalima! It's an intriguing train of thought, to work out how you'd replace everything in your life with natural, non-animal products.
