Contactless cards

yogagran, you should have a PIN to unlock your phone and another one for the SIM. Not just for the payment app but to stop someone else running up a bill on your phone.
It is useful to have the payment app in case you lose or forget your card. I agree it is not convenient to use but useful as a backup.

I use contactless. I don't buy stuff om my phone for just that reason yoga.

GrannyKnot I tried using my phone to pay "contactless" but once you install the app needed to be able to do it you have to lock your phone with a pin number to prevent fraud should you lose your phone. I found it far too inconvenient to have to unlock my phone every time I needed to use it compared with the very few times that I would have wanted to pay for something, so I uninstalled the app and now just use my card instead.

I use my contactless card for the occasional coffee etc (makes me feel young!) I also use it on the tube when I go to London, with no problems to date. I also check my account regularly. However I couldn't imagine not carrying cash, you never know what you might need it for.

I don't use it often as even my small fodd shop is often over £30 by a pound or two. I don't use public transport and if I stop for a coffee or a small item I use cash.
I have considered the aluminium purses, wrapping your card in kitchen foil does the same job.

I went to pay for fuel at petrol station last week and pin wouldn't work twice, so assistant spotted it was contactless and suggested I tapped it. Success! When I got home I saw that I had been using DH's card which I had picked up inadvertently - assistant didn't even notice! Will have to try it more often......

If the barriers are open or broken you can register your card and claim the difference in the fare back.

Imperfect, if you forget to tap out on the Underground you are charged the maximum daily fare which is less than £15.

I always use contactless, now I am starting to ditch the handbag! No point carrying it if you don't need to store your purse.

Yes and no problems to date. On a recent visit to London my son showed me that I can also use my debit/credit card to 'tap and pay' for underground travel. All fine, but you MUST get the card scanned at both ends of the journey, or apparently you are charged the maximum fee for a day of travelling on the network, which could amount to hundreds of pounds. When we travelled, I had to use the card to get through barriers, but sometimes barriers are open so I do wonder if people who are not used to the system could accidentally forget.

Yes I use mine as often as I can , never had a problem. No special purse.

After I witnessed a lady, whose card was in her bag, accidentally paying for something as she was close to a checkout till, I decided not to have a contactless card!

I regularly use my debit card to 'tap' for payments. Is this what you mean by contactless? (If yes, it isn't really contactless is it?)
Occasionally I still need chip and pin number.

I use mine all the time, no problems. I am too lazy to check my bank account daily, but I have a text sent to me by the bank with my weekly balance and I have a built in radar for about roughly how much I've spent each week ...

I see people paying at those contactless terminals with their phones too now

I use mine regularly and keep it in a little aluminium holder, bought on Ebay, so that it can't be accessed from outside my purse.

DH used his for the first time the other day. This has reminded me to check the bank account. (Always a bit late embracing the latest way of doing things!)

Same as Tee time, really. I use it all the time and rarely need cash. But I do think it's important to keep a daily eye on your bank account, just-in-case. I've never thought of using one of those screened wallets but I do make sure I only carry one contactless card to avoid confusion. If you have a TfL Travel card which is contactless, then you need to keep that separate from your bank card as TfL buses also accept contactless bank cards for fare payments.

I also use my contactless card and check my account most days on the internet. No problems (fingers firmly crossed).

I too use it regularly - no problems so far.

I use mine quite happily no problems at all. I do have internet banking and look at my account daily and can pick up any blips immediately but so far so good.
