I remember the incident in Cider With Rosie where the young Laurie Lee (maybe around 4 years old) pulls the girl dressed as a fairy off the table to see if she can really fly. That really struck me as an example of little children not understanding the 'wrongs and rights' of what they do to each other.
I expected far too much of my older children when they were tiny. These days am much more forgiving but I do step in and stop children being horrid, and explain why I am stopping them. I just don't expect them to realise they are being horrid til they are older. Maybe 8 or 9?

A better word than 'apologise'?

, in the last year or two.
