Best hangover cures?

A word of advice from one who found out the hard way.....NEVER drink ANY form of sparkling wine with Chinese food!
phoenix was it the wine or was it the msg in the Chinese food?

I once had a ten day headache after a Chinese banquet - now I ask for it without msg but I'm never sure if they take any notice!
Never blame the wine.

Yes indeed, merlot - the cold shower remedy would very probably finish anyone with a Type 1. hangover off completely...

I don't often suffer from hangovers these days, but when I do I always crave tomato soup - cold, with extra salt, straight from the tin. I'm a very classy bird.

There are two types of hangover. The first one can only be cured by time because if it's that bad you won't be able to face any of the above remedies.

The second one will wear off by lunchtime so indulge in a bacon butty and some fruit juice. If you don't fancy a large amount of bread those little brioche rolls, slightly warmed with a rasher of crispy bacon will do the trick.

Mr P and I did that one New Years Eve, and the next day we both felt as if someone had stuck a meat cleaver into our skulls.

A friend had a similar experience on a reasonably decorous hen night, i.e. just a nice meal out with a few drinks, no wild shenanigans, but the next day.........................

And if all else fails: a cold shower.

grumppa - love your idea! Take a supply of water to bed and if you feel nauseous lie on your back and keep your eyes open. This usually ensures that you fall into a drunken slumber - or so my friends tell me hmm hmm. Next morning eat - agree with artgran that you can't beat a fry up. I find the older I get, the more I can seem to drink without suffering what my dad used to call 'alcoholic remorse'. If this is one of the benefits of aging, bring it on.

A fry-up with all the trimmings. I don't drink very often but when I do, a fry up is my saviour the following morning!

My brother has always sworn by the age-old hangover cure of the hair of the dog. If he is suffering, the first thing he will reach for is a bloody mary with extra tobasco!

I had a horrible hangover on Saturday.It' was not my fault its all these office party's with colleagues insisting on Champagne. Fizzy stuff gives me horrible headaches. If I'm going to drink I'd rather stick with whisky, gin, vodka or brandy. I will drink port and I don't mind good quality beer. LOVERLY

As others have said , mind what you drink so you don't get a hangover in the first place.

To be honest, I can't remember the last time I had a hangover. I suppose different things work for different people. I find that if I haven't eaten much during the day, alcohol goes to my head. I also find that if I have a glass of water alongside my wine I will alternate and therefore not drink too much alcohol.

Easier said than done, I'd just get bloated if I drank water every other drink. I agree with Lapwing that one dose of paracetamol (usually only one tablet) gets rid of any headache I might have the morning after.

I think I'd be worried if I had to keep taking more throughout the day...

Eat a lot before you go out and drink water in between drinks and then you won't need a hangover cure hopefully.

Teetime just a couple of doses of paracetamol usually works for me - unfortunately I cannot take ibuprofen as they do not agree with me. Loved the doctors comments about the liver. Forgot to add - a walk in the fresh air to blow the cobwebs away.

A can of full sugar coke and a pkt. Of salt'n'vinegar crisps.

A pint of draught Guinness as soon as the pubs open.

A pint of water for every unit, if you can remember what you've had! This may keep you in the loo for most of the night. An old BF once told me that it's best to stay up for 4 hours after the last drink. I won't comment on what he had in mind for those 4 hours.

Lapwing that's what I do although change the orange for high dose effervescent Vit C but also and this is naughty especially coming from a nurse 2 paracetomol, then 2 hours later 2 ibuprofen, then 2 hours later 2 paracetomol etc etc - in my defence a doctor told me that obviously not for those with liver disease but they shouldn't be drinking anyway.

The best hangover cure I have found is not to get one in the first place. Alternate alcoholic drinks with water and never drink on an empty stomach.

Don't drink!

Lots of water for the dehydration (sp), painkillers, an orange for the vit C, and a bar chocolate for comfort.
