Life has been pretty stressful lately, DH has been saying I could do with a break, just a few days and a breather away from everything (and everyone-I have a large family, lots of helping out & childcare)
Anyway, he's been telling me to give it some thought, I'm not an impulsive person, prefer to give things some thought. So I've been getting some ideas together. Nothing way out or exotic in mind; maybe a couple of days in a hotel a little way from home, a chance to unwind with my thoughts & my sewing machine (I love my crafts)
So I'm still giving it some thought, when I arrive home one day, to learn he's already booked. A 4 day stay in a cottage, 4 hours drive away from home, in the middle of nowhere, for me & my friend, next week....
Now I dearly love my DH, I appreciate he is only trying to help (think he fears I'll have a breakdown soon if I don't take a break) but I really don't want to go...
Love the idea of getting away, but I would have much preferred being alone.
I know the idea is for me to have some time to relax. But in all honesty I'm just stressing. I don't want to upset him or sound ungrateful, AIBU?

Thankyou for all of the supportive comments in response to my quandary.
I have spoken with my DH, explained that this gesture, however lovely, however thoughtful, is sending my anxiety sky-high. I know he was only thinking of me & thought he was doing the right thing. Hadn't realised adding a friend into the mix would turn everything on its head. He offered to phone my friend, explain that things hadn't quite gone as expected & was planning to cancel, lo & behold before that opportunity arose, the said friend phoned him, to confirm arrangements & stating just how excited she was feeling about the upcoming break
He couldn't, and neither could I, bring her down with an almighty thud.
So, instead we've slightly altered the plans & my DH is going to join us a couple of days later.
DH has promised he will arrange another break for me another time as he feels so guilty for getting it wrong.

How lovely your husband is!
❤️
That is a great result.
I feel very pleased that you have tackled this ahead of the phone call too!

Oh what a diamond, a man who admits he got it a bit wrong, he is a prize indeed.
When you finished with him, you can send him this way 🤣

What a kind and considerate man he is. And kind of both of you to consider the excited friend. Who knows it could turn out to be a really good break.
