Sainsbury's free food box - is it a scam?

There seem to be various scams around involving Sainsbury's and it seems likely that this is one of them.

Scammers are producing links that look convincingly genuine.

Did they contact you? If so then it's a scam. Don't do it. Phone up Sainsbury's number from their website if you really want to know.

I just Googled and it's definitely a scam. Why would Sainsbury's give you free groceries anyway?

Phone your local Sainsburys and ask them. If it is genuine, they will know about it.

Yes it's a scam. I think you will find the form asks for your bank details.
That's the clue. I know someone who stopped filling in the form when she realised it was a scam because of this.

Yes, Aldom. i felt uneasy when I reached the final step, so I didn't send it.
I have just finished a call from my bank saying they had refused the payment.
It was an automatic call, so I assume I'm OK!

If an offer is too good to be true it is too good to be true.

I think one's first thought about anything emailed or facebooked or whatever these days should be...it's a scam. Sad but true.

I’ve had emails from Tesco amongst others telling me I’ve won a prize and fill in details to claim it. They are all scams but the websites and emails replicate the supermarket so they look real. Always as well to check.

You didn’t send it !! But you had a call from your bank something doesn’t sound right !

As BlueBelle says, if you didn’t ‘send’ anything, how did your bank know about it?

The ‘automatic call’ sounds as though it was connected to the scam.

I have a simple rule, if they contacted me then it's a scam! 🤠

Even if you entered a competition and then hear you've won a prize it's still safer to check through an official website phone number just to be on the safe side.

I have to be 100% certain it's a genuine company before replying in any way, and I know who are genuine.

Anything else, it's a scam! 😠

Exdancer I would go and see your bank yourself or ring them I really don’t like the sound of them ringing you It doesn’t work that way normally

I believe NSI do ring the 2 lucky winners on the 1st working day of the month. I am sure I have read that.

Should I ever be in receipt of a phone call...once I have picked myself up off the ground...I would refuse to give bank details on the basis they have them already.

I’m sure I’ve read that they actually call on the £1m winners, and ask to speak to them privately (before saying who they are or why they’re there) since some winners would prefer to keep anyone else in the house, perhaps especially a spouse or partner, in the dark about it!

Phone Sainsbury and ask

They had one in the past for Boots. I always check by googling it and usually by going to the webpage of the company. If it doesn’t show on there, it’s a scam.

It's a scam, anything that's offering free anything is a scam unless it's a washing powder sample.. Even then they'll want you to pay postage.

Aldi, Sainsburys, Waitrose... They'll all targeted with frequent scams of free food or £50/100 vouchers. They want your personal details.

Definitely a scam. Sainsbury's wouldn't give you a fright if they were a ghost! Spend £100 to get £1.00 on your bonus card.

how did your bank know if you did not submit the form?

Sainsbury do actually give a lot of free food away as do all the supermarkets, but to the Foodsaves (not foodbank) you can collect as much free food from a foodsave as they have as it would otherwise go to landfill. Look up a foodsave in your area, hope you have one, we have one 3 times a week.
