In summary a kindly could offered a heavily pregnant woman his seat on the tube but before she could sit a man muscled in and sat down. It was explained to him that the seat had been intended for the woman but he ignored this.
First the young man who blocked the handrail for an eighty year old woman to get up the steps and filmed it. And now this!!
Of course the man could have had an invisible disability but he deliberately barged in front of the woman and took the seat despite the situation being explained to him.
Have stopped using the tube in London with my DH who is disabled since suffering a stroke, is exhausting to keep explaining to people why he needs a priority seat. Thankfully he gets AA now so we use uber.

Old people can be rude too. Today I was on a bus and a woman, aged around 70, sat on an aisle seat, with her bag on the window seat. She also had her shopping trolley tucked into the two seats in front of her, so she was taking up four seats. Someone else got on and moved the trolley in order to sit down. The trolley owner complained!

There are good, kind people out there, myself and my DH have been helped on numerous occasions on trains and buses.
Am afraid the tube is a different thing altogether, we don’t use it now.

I have been offered seats regularly on the tube

When I use public transport in Paris and have to stand I look round at all the passengers and think I am the eldest one aboard.

However, once I was on an early rush hour train to the airport, everyone crushed together, and it was an Italian man, who insisted I move three seats up the aisle. to where he was so that he could give me his seat.

On the rare occasions that my friend and I go to London we now just get the train to Waterloo and take a black cab from there. The cab drivers are always helpful and seem to enjoy having a pair of elderly nutters on board.

I boarded a packed train at the weekend and was fortunate enough to be offered a seat by a kind young man. I accepted and told him how grateful I was. This also happened to me recently on the tube and I will mention that neither man was English. Perhaps other cultures have more respect for older people.

I dont think it is right to generalise. I have been offered seats and been helped by people from a range of cultures. I have also observed rudeness and selfishness on public transport by people from a range of cultures

If only there had been 2 strapping strong men on the Tube to lift that man out of the seat to allow the pregnant woman to sit down. I don't think he would have put up a fight.

I am often offered a seat on the tube so there are some nice people around.

Things that annoy me on buses are people who don't move over to the window to let others sit down and people not using headphones.

It’s so sad isn’t it. It is a generalisation but overall I think we now live in an ignorant and rude society. People are out for themselves and don’t consider others in the way they used to years ago. I frequently see it at the shops, on transport, on the road, in restaurants…..We have become a self centred, ego driven society imo, with a ‘me first’ attitude. Sadly people seem to think that this is the only way to find happiness or contentment. I think we need to start to bring up our children differently so that things can change for the future.

When my friend and I went to Prague young people kept standing up for us on the buses and trains . We didn’t know whether to be insulted as we weren’t even 60 at the time 😂. It was lovely though .
