My neighbours music wakes me up every morning.

She may be unaware that you can hear her music. You say it is not loud so I doubt the landlord would intervene, it would only cause animosity between you and the neighbour.

It will probably become a noise that you will sleep through, like birds or traffic noise that the brain ignores after time.

Invest in some wax ear plugs available on Amazon. I find them a godsend. They block out most noises.

You say you have spoken to her once before and she was rude. You could try a polite note asking her to keep the music down at such an early hour.

I would resists the temptation of speaking to her landlord. Unleas she is guilty of really anti social behaviour (such as parties every night etc) the chances are the LL is not going to want to get involved. The tenant is paying the mortgage whereas you, as a mere neighbour, are not contributing anything to their portfolio.

Years ago when I was renting I had a bad NDN who was constantly whingeing and snitching to LL. LL was already aware that she was a whiner as she had driven the last tenants out. In the end she moved to another part of the city, blocked NDNs number and instructed me never to give the NDN her number or address. I also threatened NDN with legal action if she contacted LL on any matter that was not strictly related to their responsibility as an LL.

Becoming involved between a LL and a tenant is getting into very deep water unless you have massive evidence of anti social behaviour including witnesses, recordings, and others willing to complain.

It would drive me totally nuts Bopeep14 and you have my deep sympathy. I think I would resort to earplugs,too. Years ago we actually moved house because of noise from the people who lived over the back fence. They were teenage boys who had parties every weekend. It really gets on your nerves this sort of thing, they are very thoughtless.

I would mention to your neighbour as amicably as possible that her radio wakes you in the morning, and ask if it is possible for the sound to be turned down a little or possibly moved away from the adjacent wall. She may need the radio on loud to stop herself from drifting back to sleep, (we've all been there) in which case, thank her for listening anyway, invest in earplugs and be thankful you don't have to get up early and go to work! (I am assuming you don't.)

I would have a polite word with her once more. Kindly let her know that at that hour, you are awakened by her music. If she persists, report her to the landlord. She doesn’t live in an isolated area where consideration for others isn’t necessary. She is an adult, shouldn’t need a reminder to be considerate.

There is a faint possibility, searching for reasons here, that your neighbour doesn’t realise how loud her music it. In your shoes, I would invite her into my home to understand how intrusive her music is at that particular volume. Good luck.

Be glad its just a radio! I had an underneath neighbour who played boom boom music 24/7 and no earplugs can block out the inner ear resonance caused by those bloody speakers. The housing association would not evict him even with witnesses and multiple complaints.

I’d just get a white noise machine and see if that helps

As this woman is causing a noise nuisance to you she is in breach of her tenancy agreement which states that tenants mustn’t cause problems for their neighbours.

I would be inclined to go round again and politely explain that her music is waking you every morning so could she please turn it down a bit.
Failing that you could contact the letting agent to see if they could do anything.

I sympathise with you. It would bother me too.

I doubt that the HA would do any more than send a housing offer to "talk" to the tenant about playing a radio unless it was late at night. Chances are the T would agree to turn it right down or not play it so early and the volume would gradually creep up again.

The housing office would visit and we would agree a volume with the T downstairs at which he could enjoy his music without disturbing me. However the volume would just gradually creep back up over the ensuing weeks. And it was not just the volume but the crump crump of that bl**y base. That was what he enjoyed

When I complained repeatedly he accused me of harassing him because "music was his only pleasure". The fact is that the sound insulation in the flats was of very poor quality and the HA was not going to spend any money to improve it.

It’s not a radio it’s heavy rock music, she is playing.
It’s a private rent, we own our home so moving isn’t an option.
I have fitted wardrobes along the wall, it must be really loud on her side.

I do turn my air purifier on, but that itself is noisy and I have already been disturbed.

If, as you say it's not very loud, just annoying, I'd put on your distracting air filter and see if that tricks your brain.
I think with the noise in your bedroom you will learn to not notice next door.

If it's loud you may be able to take action but it needs to be over certain decibels to count.

I do sympathise. My neighbour has put a TV in the bedroom that attaches to my bedroom and it is never off. I don't know if it is on loud (likely as they are quite deaf) but if I wake in the night it is all I can hear. I think the wife has become confined to the bedroom though and is likely to be nearing the end of her life so I am trying to be tolerant but I may have to swap bedrooms with one of my family for a while!

A young woman should not be given the same tolerance it is easy for her to turn it down/keep it to normal hours

If a further polite word has no effect, complain to the landlord or managing agents if any.

Don't forget bopeep is also woken by her own air filter. My air-filter would not be able to wake anyone in my family up - so I'm wondering how much noise is tolerable in this case.

You have my sympathy OP. I live next door to a rental house of multiple occupancy. It was previously a family home that’s been converted. It’s a nightmare! They seem to spend all their time outside in garden (even in the rain!) which is very close to my garden. There’s often several of them shouting on their phones - and I mean shouting, with phones on loud speaker (why???). There’s constant noise; shouting to each other; cars coming and going. This summer has been hell. I have politely asked them to keep the noise down and been given a mouthful of abuse. I’ve complained to their landlord who was also rude, saying ‘they’re only talking’ and accusing me of being biased against them because they’re young people who are renting. Not true! I just want a bit of peace and quiet. Sorry for the rant OP, but you can see you’re not alone. In your case I think I might contact the environmental health dept of the council.

Not spaghetti, i only put the air purifier on after i have been woken up by her music, to drown out the music.
The music is loud enough that i have recorded it and played it to a friend and asked her opinion.

I live next to a flat, where the tenants change yearly. One tenant frequently played music with a heavy bass. It thumped through my wall. I went round and knocked on his door every time it started up, once at 3am, another time at 5am. I was always polite and I think in the end it stopped because he got fed up with getting out of bed to answer his door!

Could it be a radio alarm clock? I have one and it just turns the radio on for me to wake me up. She might have it tuned to Rock FM or Planet Rock or similar.

I would politely ask her again but, if it continues to wake you up contact the landlord. Tell her first before you do, the outcome depends on how much she wants to live there.
