Online recipes are becoming novels!

I always say “ I didn’t ask for a dissertation just a recipe!”

It sounds as if I’m not the only one then. I also use the jump option when it’s available. Especially annoying when you find yourself watching a video of the recipe!
I too love the Jane Judge expression! It really says it all!

Yes I hate the long long lead in to recipes on line.
I also agree that it's very difficult to buy a cookery book nowadays that isn't an expensively produced hardback mainly comprising glossy photos of the cook and their family and their arty crockery. If I'm lú ky there might be one recipe I'll use regularly.

Since my iPad I have discarded many of my big cookery books (not Saint Delia though) just to make space. I don’t miss them.
But many is the time I’ve flicked through a massive celeb ?‍? chef bible in the charity shop filled with anticipation only to find it half filled with aspirational lifestyle twaddle coupled with smug family photos; then recipes with huge and specific lists of ingredients/equipment that are unavailable to any one not living in London.
I keep promising myself that I will make a scrap book/ diary of all the successful recipes and what page of which book/website etc - and there have been a fair few.

One feature on internet recipes I do appreciate is the ability to scale the recipes up or down with a click.

Most blogs here in the US have a button at the top of the post that says Jump To Recipe.

No, it is very annoying!!

I think, 'oh, just stop waffling and get on with it. I'm just not interested if the gentle sun comes into your huge kitchen from the west, lending a glow to your freshly baked bread and cakess, I just want the recipe'. It's howling a gale here, I can't go out so let's bake!

If I get the urge to make something different (not very often, I admit) then I want to see the recipe immediately, not after 7 pages of rubbish about their journey around the world.

I might be alone in this but I enjoy reading some of the blogs. I remember one by an American lady detailing their three month trip around Italy and France, and producing lovely recipes for biscuits, rolls and cakes, drinks, sauces - all sorts of gorgeous things. I don't think I ever got around to making anything but the blog was a lovely read.

I think the point of the ‘stories’ are also to make you scroll down the page for longer, allowing more room for advertising- which is where the blog/ website makes money from. I agree though, very annoying!

Since I bought my air fryer just over a week ago, I have trawled through many a blog in search of the recipe that drew me there in the first place. Sometimes, they take quite some finding!

I wasn't aware of this, but have to say that if anyone asks me for a recipe, they have to get the story as well!

You are not being unreasonable at all. I also find it annoying but sometimes it says skip to recipe which I do all the time.

I just want the recipe, not their life story.

They clearly enjoy reading about themselves but fail to realise that nobody else does.

I only go to BBC good food site or Delia , Mary Berry etc as they don't bore me with their life story! I am with you 100%!

I was just complaining about this myself. You have to scroll through a novella to get to the recipe!

I share your irritation, but if you're looking at a blog for a recipe, then that's the point of a blog! The writer is sharing what is essentially their diary, with a recipe at the end of it. Some bloggers accept that not everyone is going to want to read their musings, and will put a link to skip to the recipe, but essentially, the writing is the price you pay for a "free recipe".
