For me it is the root of the celery which we used to fight over, bacon rind (very hard to find), banana toffee which stuck to your teeth and blancmange/symington table creams. Ponds face cream, and Armani hair gel. The gel would be so thick sometimes it had to be washed out! Guess I’m giving my age away ?

Bright green mint cracknel and Kunzle cakes!

The large bars of Imperial Leather soap. The small ones last no time at all in the shower

Hetty. Coconut ice is very simple to make. When I was a child before the war used to make it and toffee on wet days.

Peanut Cracknel out of Quality Street- always wrapped in a blue foil wrapper.

WELLA Shades in Warm Red

A sort of colour shampoo in a sachet which would do me 3 washes, which was not permanent but if used regularly kept my hair in a nice chestnut/auburn colour without using hairdressers etc, no roots and left it shiny sad The only equivalent is a Superdrug one but it's nowhere near as good as this one was.

Clarnico mint creams, Café Noir biscuits, those clothes that you found that fitted and looked good but had disappeared when you went to get another one.....

Going off at a tangent - why does coffee never taste as good as it smells?

Havoc perfume

You can get Ponds cold cream on Amazon. I miss the boxes of Weekend chocolates and candies.

They re-released Aqua Manda but no idea if it smells like the 70s one.

Trisha57 Tue 25-Jan-22 11:54:16

Damdee - it doesn't, I bought it!

HazelGreen Tue 25-Jan-22 11:55:27

The long venison pie they used to sell in W*******e. Chocolate Oliver biscuits seem in extremely short supply if available at all. All year round Dundee cake (only seen in F** and M* at a high price out of the Xmas season): W********e seem to sell it only at Xmas.

nipsmum Tue 25-Jan-22 11:58:18

Proper dripping and the right potatoes to make homemade chips like my mum made.

Greciangirl Tue 25-Jan-22 12:03:11

Amplex roll on deodorant.

For some reason, it’s no longer available.

mrswoo Tue 25-Jan-22 12:06:46

Tiffin chocolate bars
Clarnico Mint Creams
And,like Hazelgreen, I really miss Germolene. Not the insipid version in a tube on sale nowadays but the dark pink stuff in a can that is no longer sold. I used to love the smell.

Deedaa

When I was a child Cadbury's used to do a bar of chocolate divided up into 6 sections, each one had a filling from the Dairy Milk selection. There was a strawberry one, marzipan, coffee cream, orange cream and I couple of others. It was a special treat and was much cheaper than a whole box of chocolates.

Ooh Deedaa I had forgotten all about that

Panyan pickle. Like Branston only nicer.

Panyan pickle was made at Maconachies in hadfield Derbyshire opposite our school and it stank!! Not at all like pickle! My auntie worked there and she got free jars and Sunpat peanut butter too!

There was a little known bar named Milky Lunch. Lovely with nougat and crispy layers.

Horlicks tablets

Original Smarties (the present ones are not the same), we used to use the red ones as lipstick!

Just remembered something else that is no more, Gripfix. It was a thick white glue in a tub - I loved the smell of that too - it smelt of almonds. Hope it was safe to sniff!

Try lavazza red label and use 2 scoops per cup! Weak coffe is usually because not enough is used. I always find Brits are stingey with fresh coffee! Pile it in!!
