For me it is the root of the celery which we used to fight over, bacon rind (very hard to find), banana toffee which stuck to your teeth and blancmange/symington table creams. Ponds face cream, and Armani hair gel. The gel would be so thick sometimes it had to be washed out! Guess I’m giving my age away ?

Chocolate Olivers. At least Bath Olivers are back on the shelves.

Panyan pickle. Like Branston only nicer.

MissAdventure Mon 24-Jan-22 21:19:42

Ooh yes! I used to love that.
I had forgotten all about it.

I think I contributed somewhat to the disappearance of Clarnico peppermint creams.
I was addicted to them during my last pregnancy (1975). He was 9.9ozs ?

Pudding mix called Honeycomb Mould
Swiss roll with just jam, no ‘cream’ (for trifle making)
Red, white and green stripes chewy peppermints

Chewbacca Mon 24-Jan-22 21:54:52

kittylester I always loved Caramac and much to my surprise, I found some in a museum shop a couple of years ago. I don't know if it had changed, or if I'd changed, but it was horribly sickly sweet - like eating solidified condensed milk! Bleurgh!

I went on amazon to find old Jamaica chocolate, and ended up getting a weeks shopping.
I was surprised how easy it was, considering I've never done it before. smile

I bought Old Jamaica just before Christmas at Home Bargains..it was just as I remembered it.£1 a bar.

That's the only thing on this thread I would hanker after but I mustn't go to Home Bargains to buy any
I really mustn't!

I did manage to get a jam only Swiss roll for the trifle, I think it was Tesco own make.

Old Jamaica chocolate bars.
At least I seem to think that's what they were called.

Aldi sell a rum fruit and nut bar in a dark burgundy wrapper which is a reasonable modern day substitute. My late DM loved Old Jamaica. Give aldi's one a try

MissAdventure Mon 24-Jan-22 23:05:53

I really like Aldi chocolate.
I wouldn't look at rum flavour ordinarily.
All I can say is no wonder old jamaica made me dribble!
Thanks. Will try it out if I go to Aldis.

Ali's Moser Roth chocolate is divine! I really like that it's individually wrapped into 5 little bars within the box. I'm partial to the orange and almond one.

Callard and Bowser nougat - it was covered in rice paper, which you ate, then wrapped in silver foil and boxed. Absolutely superb, but it was expensive.

Coty did a perfume I liked better than any, ever, I think it was called MeadowFresh, and it came in a white ceramic bottle.

Innoxa makeup, and the best thing ever for spots (thank goodness I grew out of them!) a thing called Propa PH. I used to get my Mum to do my back with it twice a day; it was the only thing that worked.

Ready salted chip sticks.
Eau de Givenchy.

These

Poshpaws, was it Solution 41 by Innoxa? I remember using loads of that on my pimples, it worked wonders on my teenage spots.

Rowantree Tue 25-Jan-22 06:30:17

Definitely Aqua Manda Deedaa!
Sugar mice bought individually from the sweetshop. Yardley June Roses soap, talc and bath cubes. That yummy Cadburys choc bar with a variety of fillings. Gob stoppers. Chicken bought whole from the butcher with its feet on. My mother sometimes made boiled chicken and we fought over the occasional egg yolk inside ( am I imagining that one???) My father's beef dripping sandwiches, no longer considered healthy fare.

I get DH the Jamaica choc at the sweet chain Mr Sims, they have lots of sweets (or similar) from the past.

JessK Tue 25-Jan-22 09:43:24

Ponds Cold Cream - it was cheap and it worked. Haven't seen it for years.

emmasnan Tue 25-Jan-22 09:49:06

Iceland also sell Old Jamaica chocolate, bought some yesterday.

Kittycoo Tue 25-Jan-22 09:56:33

I loved kunzel cakes.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 25-Jan-22 10:11:54

Symington’s Table Creams and Bird’s Instant Whip. Surprise dried peas - so sweet.

PinkCosmos Tue 25-Jan-22 10:14:24

Yardley Caprice perfume - I have been looking for a similar smell for years. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Spanish Gold - it was a stringy sweet in a paper packet that was supposed to look like tobacco shock. I did find some a couple of years ago in an old fashioned sweet shop. It was made from coconut dusted with chocolate. It was really sweet. Not a bit like I remembered it.

Also, what happened to Virol - I remember my mother giving it to me as a child. I think it was molasses. I loved it but my friend hated it.

Scribbles Tue 25-Jan-22 10:14:55

Delrosa Rosehip Syrup

Linc-o-lin Beer Shampoo in a little barrel shaped bottle.

Deedaa

When I was a child Cadbury's used to do a bar of chocolate divided up into 6 sections, each one had a filling from the Dairy Milk selection. There was a strawberry one, marzipan, coffee cream, orange cream and I couple of others. It was a special treat and was much cheaper than a whole box of chocolates.

I remember this very well, such a good idea for people who don't want a whole box. But I don't much like creams.
