AIBU in thinking acronyms are irritating and can be counter productive. It may save the poster from a few moments typing but it can cause the reader to take more than those few moments to figure out what the hell is being said. Just spent time wondering what OH was. Turns out it was other half!
I don't mind abbreviations /acronyms. Its overuse that annoys me. If a post is littered with them it becones unreadable. I quite often finish texts to my children with ttul.
I know it’s just me but I’d prefer DH to “hubby” ?
Bit just you Lucca, I hate hubby or hubs.
It seems pointless complaining about acronyms (or abbreviations) because those if us who do use them are unlikely to stop as it is ingrained by now. And, it's not compulsory so don't if you don't want to!
I’m another who cringes at ‘peeps’. In any case, it’s only one letter shorter than ‘people’ so what’s the point? (I might even say WTF is the point?)
The only thing that aggravated me about ‘dh’ and the like, when I first encountered them around 20 years ago now, was that it took me a little while to work them out - did that mean I was more than normally dense? Was my IQ sadly lacking? So it was something of a relief when light dawned.
I got very confused with one post that referred to the doings of their SIL - I thought it was their son in law but it was their sister in law. Once the penny dropped the post made much more sense.
I agree with BlueBelle the abbreviations are annoying. Sometimes there is a long post which is littered with them, makes me lose the will. I have no idea why its necessary to have 'dear' anyone can they not be just husband, brother etc. Lucca I dislike the word 'hubby' as well, not quite on a par with 'the wife' though.
