I bet I know who it was! . There was a - ahem - lively thread about spelling and grammar the other day! Ignore it, the world changes, we all make mistakes.

As I said - on another thread - I'm fussy about spelling and grammar because I used to teach and proofread.

BUT this isn't the place to be fussy. We're not writing dissertations, we're asking for and giving support or chatting for company etc.

As long as we can understand each other, that's all that matters.

I agree that it should be all that matters Septimia but there are those who take pleasure in correcting mistakes. I wonder if they were red pen users in a previous existence?

Amazing how low some people can sink in their bid to assume the educational high ground. The kind and sincere on this forum are unfailing well mannered and wouldn’t dream of correcting others punctuation or grammar.

I think this thread is about being corrected rather than expressing ourselves grammatically correctly.I felt bad some while back when I wrote lightning following a poster who had spelt it "lightening". I hoped she did not feel that I was correcting her as that was not my intention. There is no place for that here . I have seen posters ask for clarification politely where a post came across as muddled and I think that is fair enough.We would do this in RL.Only yesterday I said to a doctor that I didn't quite understand what she was saying and would she clarify it please.

That’s just rude. Some people obviously need to work on their manners rather than other people’s spelling/mistyping. We’re not at school now.

We had a doctor we could never hear, Greenfinch. He just mumbled into his beard. Should have come with subtitles.

Rude and unnecessary Maybelle so ignore. The only time I pick up on spelling and/or grammatical errors are when they're my own. I getbecause even though I've read through my post before posting, there they are from time to time, so obvious I don't know how I managed to miss them.

It just shows their lack of common courtesy. Ignore them. I think most of us want everyone to feel comfortable to participate in any thread without having to worry about their spelling or grammar.

As a retired English teacher, I could waste my time correcting errors. But I wouldn't dream of being so rude. Those who think themselves so correct should stick to Pedants' Corner.

On the "Things we have lent out never to see again" thread One poster, has taken it upon herself to post, to no one in particular, it's lent not leant.

Well thank you teacher! I'm sure we all want a spelling lesson at our various ages, suffice to say I imagine most of us are over 50 at least

It's up to posters to correct our own errors, if we feel that's necessary. It's easy to make a mistake anyway if you are typing quickly. I know I've read my own posts back and have seen occasionally, I've maybe typed of when it should be off, it's easily done. I subscribe to the "Mrs Do As You Would Be Done By" school of thought, I wouldn't appreciate being corrected, so I certainly wouldn't do it to anybody else.

Hi TerriBull, the correction on the spelling of a ring cake tin and leant were, I believe aimed at me. As I had spelt both in my own variation of the norm in my previous post.
Thank you to everyone for such supportive comments. Must have been having a bit of a down day as I usually would not get bothered by such things.

Hi Maybelle and anyone else castigated for their wrong spellings.....take no notice of it, and certainly don’t allow it to put a crimp in your day.
We all at times spell things wrongly, either through too fast typing ( and not using preview) something that I should do more, then I would notice them, or being tired or having had a couple of glasses of vino.
I should also use the spell checker more often.

I don't make spelling errors, lots of typos though [grin} Yes, of course I do and it doesn't worry me and shouldn't worry anyone else. I do Gn from my laptop but it would be much worse if I used my phone or tablet.

I think that if someone comes on here to be so rude we should feel sorry for them as they must lead very sad lives.

I feel the same about those who choose to misinterpret posts because they must have the same problem. Just glad I don't live with someone like that!

Please don't stress about it, they are not worth it and you can see that the majority agree.
