Well I expect Louise Christian and Michael Mansfield are involved because of their life times of experience in fighting for the less privileged in our society and not because of the colour of their skin. Why are your posts so angry annie? I watched Jon Snow's interview with the mother and son and could only feel compassion for them as I sat in my warm, safe house surrounded by all my life times possessions. I understand that many survivors will feel marginalised because of what happened with warnings ignored for years. I can understand that some of them have no faith in the process because of that. I've read accounts by them of life in hotels with their children - they feel ignored.

Well I think some of your posts are being used for political gain as well - why are you posting such harsh things? There is a perfectly rational reasonable argument to be made in favour of the judge's position without sounding so angry and making comments about the tenants renting from people the same colour as them

However, the Grenfell survivors are not hiring him. He is giving his expertise for free, which is even better., as are all the Lawyers4Grenfell.

It's quite simple really if someone is openly on your side the fact that they may not know the issues your race or colour has involved will not matter because they will listen to you. If a panel is sitting in judgement or making rulings it is reasonable to think they should be drawn from the widest possible mix reflecting the people who will be affected, how else can they recognise the concerns of those people?

What on earth are you talking about - when I first started posting you used that name to me and I ignored it as I didn't know what you were on about - I even searched for it and couldn't find it. Is it acceptable to say posters are someone they aren't?

both the council and private landlords have shared ownership of the tower block

annie I think Grenfell Tower, like most council/social housing, will have some private landlords because of Margaret Thatcher's right to buy scheme which sold flats (leasehold) to tenants. Over the years those tenants may have sold them on to others as private residences or as landlords.

The private landlords will have had very little say in the management of the block as the council will have run it (through a Tenant Management Company). Individual landlords will have just as little say in its management as the tenants do. They will be paying an annual management fee.

Strange not one private landlord has given an interview and if some flats were private rents I don't understand why it is the councils responsibility to rehouse these tenants

I think mostly has clearly explained why the council is responsible for the rehousing because all the issues around the fire are probably ultimately the responsibility of the council. The private flats will be leasehold not freehold and it will be within the responsibility of the coumcil's remit to fulfil those responsibilities. Private owners will have had no say whatsoever in the maintenance of the building whether they were living in a flat or renting it out.

But you haven't explained the difference between people of colour and skin colour, just to clear up what you think is my mistake

I really don't understand why private landlords have been mentioned - they are, in my view, irrelevant. Fire safety measures on a tower block can't be carried out piecemeal - they would have to be the responsibility of one body and presumably that body was the Grenfell Management Company.

The council is getting the flak because they presumably chose the management company and should have had some oversight of how it was operating. Why are you trying to defend the indefensible anniebach?

Eleothan, you are not following the discussion, DJ spoke of private landlords, I didn't know there were private landlords involved so asked, didn't defend anyone.

Same reason I am asking what is the difference between skin colour and people of colour, I don't know the difference so asked.

It means the same anniebach whichever term is used, it's just a matter of preference for certain words, but the meaning is the same.

An interesting point has been raised, regarding private flats.
The Council would surely require any private flat within a block of mixed council and private properties, to contribute to maintenance costs?

I have no knowledge of tower blocks, with rows of council houses with some sold and some rented the council work on the rented but not on the privately owned, recently they put new roof on their properties and not the privately owned in the same estate in the same rows. Same with painting , they do not paint the privately owned houses.
