What is it with people passing? Surely they have died.....is that too blunt for the news these days.

I love the YouTube clip. I also like to call a spade, a spade and prefer 'died' because that is what has happened. I do try to be caring when talking to bereaved people but I'm afraid I still use the word 'died'. We use a lot of euphemisms mostly I think to cover our own embarrassment and it can be very confusing at times.

I had a lot of sympathy cards when my dh died but the one that cheered me up a bit and made me smile had the words inside,
"Keep your chin up."

When DS 3 died Ds 2 had a day off for the funeral. He went back to school the following day and a group of friends said oh you are back Mr Smith told us you had had a bereavement what was it?
My poor son had to explain what had happened.
