Well I am an addict and proud of it! Love it all even the boring bits and now love Ambridge Extra.......I believe I am not alone either????

Iam64 Tue 09-Dec-14 08:03:11

I'm still not over the scriptwriters throwing Nigel off that roof. His personality had been entertaining me for years, especially the Bertie Wooster type approach to life - we need a bit of fun folks, alongside the ordinary drama's of everyday (farming) life

papaoscar Tue 09-Dec-14 13:31:22

Yes, Nigel is coming back. Elizabeth kept a lock of his hair from which a DNA model has been recreated. She then bribed the clinic to impregnate Helen with young Henry, and plans in due course to reveal the new mini-Nigel and seek a terrible revenge on the Archer clan. However, she's going to wait until she's got her hands on her share of the Brookfield proceeds before she makes her move. Noboby else knows about all this except, unfortunately, Rob - his wife's lover is a technician at the fertilisation clinic and tittle-tattled Nigel's surname, Pargetter, to wifey who, remembering Nigel, mentioned it to Rob, who put two and two together, and smells the tempting prospect of a bit of blackmail. So no wonder Rob, the control freak is on a high, he thinks he's got the Archers in the palm of his hand. But keep it quiet, don't tell anyone, especially Grumpa!

NanKate Tue 09-Dec-14 13:31:35

Nigel of course! thanks for the prompt.

Lilygran Tue 09-Dec-14 14:05:53

papaoscar grin

PapaO you have a talent for writing storylines. I would offer yourself to the BBC for a trial week as a representative of the more mature listeners.

NanKate Wed 10-Dec-14 15:15:45

I was shopping in our small town today and I saw an elderly last hanging onto a metal railing. I stopped and asked if she was ok. She said she was fine. At this point I realised that I knew her voice.

I said 'should I recognise your voice'
'Yes' she replied.

It was none other than Jill Archer. tchshock

I said how I loved the show she thanked me and wished me a Happy Christmas.

I didn't have the gall to ask her if she, Ruth and David, would actually depart from Ambridge. wink

papaoscar Wed 10-Dec-14 18:50:50

Jill Archer, indeed! Masquerading as an elderly metal railing supporter, no doubt, in a last desperate attempt to avoid the dreadful fate that awaits her in the fracking mines 'oop north. The poor old soul had almost certainly escaped the iron grip of R & D in a brief bid for freedom and she was very lucky that you arrived, Nankate, before the studio Bow Street runners turned up to drag her back to the microphone. I shall listen with renewed interest to see what fate awaits her.

merlotgran Wed 10-Dec-14 19:37:04

Hanging on to a metal railing?

No doubt she'd been Carol Tregorran's peppermint tea.

NanKate Wed 10-Dec-14 19:52:10

I don't know how the word lady turned into last but fortunately PapaO and Merlot were on the ball.

I have to tell you Jill was waiting for a man to take her home and he was parked illegally by M and S. Do you think I will have to stand bail for her beau if he is taken off to our police station ? Silly me our police station was closed down a few years ago other than for a few hours a week.

It's all kicking off here in the Thames Valley, Borchester has nothing on us.grin

merlotgran Wed 10-Dec-14 20:02:21

Thames Valley?? You mean she doesn't really live in Ambridge? tchshock

BTW Back in the eighties I made a ham sandwich for Shula. She opened an old traction engine show and I was in charge of the catering tent.

NanKate Wed 10-Dec-14 21:23:50

Between you and I Merlot she lives in a small village call Bisham (pronounced bissham by the locals) and her house gets flooded regularly as she is very close to the Thames. However, she can get to Brookfield quite easily up the M40 and left a bit.

I think I am losing my grip on reality. hmm

merlotgran Wed 10-Dec-14 21:36:11

I remember Bisham. I lived at RAF Medmenham for four years.

Can't think why she wants to slum it in Ambridge. tchgrin

grumppa Wed 10-Dec-14 22:04:00

All these local farmers going to the shoot..... It's going to be the OK Corral with 12 bores instead of Colt 45s.

NanKate Thu 11-Dec-14 06:43:25

Merlot the RAF houses were sold up some years back and have now been updated into a relatively expensive housing estate.

Now back to the Archers.

I have just been listening to tonight's episode and, since Pip Tom and others have new actors they all sound alike to me ( a listener for many many years). When they were talking to Dan and Phoebe and Ben I was thoroughly lost. Couldn't the script writers get the characters to mention a few names in conversation. I really hadn't a clue. I will have to listen again to that episode. (If I can be bothered)

merlotgran Fri 02-Jan-15 22:29:20

NanKate, I have a photo of our house taken by an old school friend and I'm so chuffed that it looks so nice. All the trees at the back where I used to build dens are still there and Dad would love to know that his beloved garden is in great shape.

Back to the Archers......So now Rob wants a baby? No further mention of Jess and her baby?

Mishap Fri 02-Jan-15 22:49:43

And Charlie and Adam have got around to a snog - what a surprise. These predictable story lines are getting a bit tiresome! - they flag them up and build them up for months.

I would be very happy for there to be a bit less action.

Nelliemoser Sat 03-Jan-15 00:33:41

Papaoscar I have only just seen your scenario on 09/12/14 for the script with the return of Nigel. grin grin grin

NfkDumpling Sat 03-Jan-15 07:51:25

Thanks Mishap I missed that episode. Thought something like that must have happened - it was inevitable but I'd hoped Adam would have more sense. It's all getting very Eastenders.

Nanabelle Sat 03-Jan-15 09:08:50

And we had three nights of New Year's Eve. How bizarre. As for Rob and Helen, I do hope she asks how his divorce is progressing before she agrees to have his baby. I have listened for over 50 years and am so disappointed by the dire script writing these days. Wish the editor would go back to EE and someone would remember what the Archers should be like. And I too find all the new voices just the same. So confusing.
And I bet David and Ruth don't ever go!

suzied Sat 03-Jan-15 09:32:10

I haven't heard the Charlie and Adam one yet, I predicted this ages ago, didn't Adam have some fling with a Polish farmhand a while back, did Ian ever find out? I sometimes drop out of listening and miss key bits. I agree, too many "new" characters to follow sometimes, maybe trying to capture the younger audiences. But I don't agree that it's getting too racey, aren't soaps supposed to be dramatic? If it was all coffee mornings and WI meetings we'd soon complain! Hope Rob gets his comeuppance soon BTW, it's dragging on a bit.

suzied Sat 03-Jan-15 09:33:03

I like the carol Tregorran character tho

Nelliemoser Sat 03-Jan-15 10:27:16

I thought Adam had already had a fling with Charlie but the polish farmhand does ring bells. That'll mess up his holiday!

Was it Kate who saw them together?

Iam64 Sat 03-Jan-15 10:31:23

Who is Adam's father? He seems to be modelling himself on Brian doesn't he, incapable of fidelity.

I do with that popao's script in which Nigel is brought back to life is adopted by the script writers. Nigel brought a lot of fun to the Archers and Ambridge could do with more of that currently.

As for the awful Rob - it's a pity the bull didn't run him over, instead of Tony grin

sparkygran Sat 03-Jan-15 14:11:02

Agree with so much of what has already been said Nelliemoser it was Helen who saw them. I have been an AFan for as long as I can remember but do find it predictable and I confess boring at times now storylines tend to go on far too long that I`ve lost interest by the time they come to fruition. Poor Ian but where is he? He hasn`t been on air for yonks
