I have just stumbled on these programmes on Netflix ( though I had seen some before), and I was amazed at the gullibility of the women featured.
Others have met and lived with men who were living double ( and treble, and quadruple) lives, and handed over large amounts of money to them, or there were holiday romances with men many decades younger, where these ladies believed they were going to be married ( or were married to them!)
Is it me?

No,not you, some people, men as well as women fall for these things because they're lonely and the attention is welcome, and once these merciless people have them hooked they fleece them.So sad

I do find these stories equally sad and pretty unbelievable _but I totally understand how these women and men get caught up in these awful situations.

They are lonely, vulnerable victims, who are groomed and set up.

I think the people who do this, and sometimes it’s groups of people targeting a dozen or so people, or more, in one hit, are simply among the most disgusting people ever.

Would I ever fall for this? I really like to think not, but who knows, if something happened to my DH and I was suddenly left alone and lonely and grieving……

Daddima I also cannot believe how stupid and gullible these women are. Why would you give money go someone you've never met? They lie all the time, pretending their child has to have an operation or they will die, or some such story to gain sympathy. No-one would get a penny out of me.

It’s not just women. I knew a local guy in his sixties who fell online for a ‘Russian’ woman twenty years younger than him. She conned him out of thousands, he didn’t tell anybody he was giving her money, just that he had met somebody online and had fallen in love with her - the money was ostensibly for her to come to the UK. It broke him when he found out.

Please don’t go there. You will regret it if you do.
