There's a new series starting tonight at 9 pm on BBC1 called "The Bodyguard". The I described it as "gripping stuff", "electrifying thriller".

Grannyknot Sun 26-Aug-18 20:39:48

I was hopeful until I saw it involved politicians and terrorism...

seacliff Sun 26-Aug-18 21:13:11

I'm gripped already.

merlotgran Sun 26-Aug-18 22:14:19

Very good. No doubt there will be plenty of twists and turns.

tanith Sun 26-Aug-18 22:16:50

Loved it.

I was clutching a cushion within 15 minutes. Great stuff, I enjoyed it much more than I expected to. And more tomorrow - bring it on!

Very tense and gripping from the outset.
I realised just how involved I was when I jumped and squawked at the noise of a locker door!
Already looking forward to ep 2 tomorrow.

The first part in the train was, I thought, very nerve wracking and well done.

It appears that David/Dave is suffering from PTSD and I am at the moment wondering how he could do his job so well.

It looks promising so I'm hoping it stays somewhere within the realms of possibility/believability.

merlotgran Sun 26-Aug-18 23:16:40

I'm wondering if he's going to go rogue and be a danger to the politician he's supposed to be protecting.

sorry ,I didn't see this thread and just started another on the same subject .Perhaps it can be taken down for me GN.

We both enjoyed this. Unusual in itself as our tastes in tv are very different. Gripping and powerful. I also wondered if David would turn against the politician and the establishment in general. Will keep watching.

ninathenana Mon 27-Aug-18 07:47:06

merlot yes, it would seem that the job is a means to an end

Pittcity Mon 27-Aug-18 08:07:14

I enjoyed it but DH loved picking holes....the most unbelievable bit was that the train into Euston was running on time and everyone had a seat!
Richard Madden is quite fanciable......

baubles Mon 27-Aug-18 08:57:10

Good start but like you Eloethan I wondered how he could handle doing the job he does given his PTSD symptoms.

ffinnochio Mon 27-Aug-18 10:11:51

PTSD can be a slow burn, with hyper awareness ... so for the moment David is doing his job well, and the lift episode showed his control. Relationship crashed however ... classic.
Very good multi-layered drama.

trisher Mon 27-Aug-18 10:25:35

I thought it wa great. Wife obviously knows more about his PTSD and is keeping quiet for now. Although I did. wonder if you knew your husband was suffering would you allow him to go off with your children on his own?

henetha Mon 27-Aug-18 10:26:49

It was brilliant! Looking forward to part two tonight.

baubles Mon 27-Aug-18 10:49:57

Ah that makes sense ffinn thanks.

Grannyknot Mon 27-Aug-18 11:48:57

I shall put my negativity aside and pick up my knitting and log on to iPlayer grin

toscalily Mon 27-Aug-18 11:54:02

The first part was quite tense, certainly held my attention. Obviously he has PTSD and we are all assuming he will have a melt down and go off the rails but perhaps that is too obvious, lets hope for twists & turns in the storyline to keep it interesting.

Kerenhappuch Mon 27-Aug-18 12:02:05

I could hardly watch the sequence in the train at the start. I was enjoying Keeley Hawes' gung-ho politician character contrasting with the bodyguard's 'I'm just trying to do my job' approach, and thought it was developing into an 'odd couple' type story about how they learn to get on, but it seemed there were hints of something bigger towards the end. Great acting, and I love anything with a political setting, so I'm hooked.

HildaW Mon 27-Aug-18 13:01:10

Methinks there will be lots of twists......the sacked PA and that big black car of hers.....what's that all about?
It all looks rather promising and its on BBC....so no adverts...we are out in sticks with very poor internet so good old fashioned TV is still the best for us.

GrandmaKT Mon 27-Aug-18 15:32:01

We both enjoyed it. The first 20 minutes were real tense edge-of-the-seat stuff. I thought it was a bit unrealistic that all of the SWAT team brought in to deal with the suicide bomber were women?

seacliff Mon 27-Aug-18 22:05:48

Wow !!!

merlotgran Mon 27-Aug-18 22:10:31

Pity they jumped into bed so quickly. Other than that it was really gripping.
