Last night I thought I would watch a scary film, not that I particularly like them but once in a while I feel like I should give those films another go. you never know maybe they make a good one suddenly. Last night I watched the babadook I missed half the film because I was looking away. what a waste! why do I keep watching these films when I dont actually enjoy them?

I want to watch a GOOD scary film, any ideas? I cant be the only one who loves to hate the scary stuff confused

The scariest one I've seen was an oldie, the 1945 version of The Picture of Dorian Gray. I've looked on youtube and you don't seem to be able to get the full version, only the trailer and snippets.

My days of watching scary films are over, but at the time I found Carrie very unnerving and more recently The Ring - very creepy with some shocking moments!

Psycho was enough for me!

I don't mind scary films but don't do blood and gore I prefer a psychological thriller like Psycho or Sixth Sense.

The Hitcher with Rutger Hauer. It was the scariest film I had ever watched. Also the recent version of The Woman in Black, with Daniel Radcliffe, was very creepy and I certainly wouldn't want to sit through it again.

I quite like scary films so long as I've got someone with me who doesn't take the mickey when I hide behind a cushion.

The scariest one I've seen lately was The Others with Nicole Kidman. It was so creepy and managed to make me terrified of Eric Sykes of all people.

I have never watched scary movies. I don't mind serial killers, blood and gore but I hate the feeling of tension and then that moment that makes you jump

I do not like scary movies, in fact last nights episode of The Fall I found scary.

I don't watch scary films - I've never got over watching Psycho and that was in about 1967!

I quite like watching scaries from time to time, but I prefer a thriller. Have you seen Dark Water with Jennifer Connolly? I watched Before I Go To Sleep with Nicole Kidman & Colin Firth recently - a mystery thriller. I stumbled across a sc-fi horror the other night, called Prometheus, and was surprised that I enjoyed watching it, not being a sci-fi fan.

I am a chicken too and can't watch the scary bits in a film. Neither can I take suspense, nor gory bits. My D and I watched 'The Fall' last night and, as the first two thirds were taken up with a graphically presented operation I hid my eyes for 40 minutes with my DH saying, 'Don't look yet. Wait until I tell you you can look. Definitely, don't look NOW!'

I have done a few of those 'Test your Personality' website quizzes for things like introspection, sociopathy (!!), sensitivity, narcicissm,Aspergers, emotion recognition in others and so on and I have confirmed what I suspected, I am hyper aware and hyper sensitive. In short, a bit of a snowflake.

radicalnan Fri 30-Sept-16 10:44:54

I find the news enough to scare me

Angela1961 Fri 30-Sept-16 10:54:09

As if it makes a difference- I'm ok if I watch them during the day !

mintsmum Fri 30-Sept-16 11:08:03

I just cant bear horror films and haven't watched one for years. In fact I'm such a coward that anything with a rating above 12 is likely to get turned off!

meandashy Fri 30-Sept-16 11:52:15

I love horror films, psychological scary films too. Infact any film that's NOT a romcom! All time favourite is psycho ? it's good to raise your blood pressure occasionally ?

purpletulip Fri 30-Sept-16 12:01:19

Shaun of the Dead is about my limit. I got about five seconds into American Horror Story before noping back out again!

Lupin Fri 30-Sept-16 13:04:54

I haven't watched a scary film since I saw Alien - the one where she's persuaded to go to an Alien infested place with a tough group of Marine like soldiers and finds a little girl under the floor as the only survivor. I screeched my way through it - constant plot twists - and felt wrung out at the end. Had to get to the end though. But never again!
Don't mind creepy - I watched The Others and survived.

Nannanoo Fri 30-Sept-16 13:07:20

The Minions are quite scary enough for me! grin

durhamjen Fri 30-Sept-16 13:15:01

Thanks for that, lilyflower.
I recorded The Fall to watch in daytime.
I'll just delete it and not bother with the rest.
I did watch the other series, but that's so long ago I've forgotten how the last one ended, and don't need to be reminded.

The Exorcist is good; scarily creepy but still quite ...intelligent?

And I love Psycho too. Seen it gazillions of times.

chrissyh Fri 30-Sept-16 15:57:23

When I was a teenager my friend and I would go to the local fleapit which specialised in horror films. Some were so bad they were funny and others were scary but nothing, I think, like the horror films of today. You wouldn't catch me watching one these days.
