Did anyone watch last nights programme? I really enjoyed the last series and love Idris Elba but somehow it wasn't as good. It seemed to have every crime show cliché possible. Perhaps it was me I was tired and a bit grumpy.

I wondered why it was that I had never watched Luther after seeing just one episode when it first started. I watched some of it last night and then realised what the probable reason had been. I thought it was extremely sadistic and gruesome and after it became increasingly so I turned over. I won't be watching again.

I enjoyed the last series- watched 30 minutes of last night's and decided I did not have a clue what was going on so switched off.

It was definitely gruesome, and I did shut my eyes at times. Although I watched the last series DS did have to remind me of a couple of points.
I will watch next week.

I switched off at the point when a character said "Straight up gov" - for goodness sake!

Well, I thought it was well written, well acted and gripping. But there again I like Minette Walters psychological thrillers which can be a bit gruesome too.

My DD and I both saw an episode when Luther first started that, if I remember right, featured a woman alone in a house with a small baby and a swimming pool. We were so traumatised by it that neither of us has watched another one. I did start to watch last nights and was petrified right from the beginning; I did fall asleep after a while so now have to watch it again. Thought the Scandi dramas had toughened me up sufficiently.

Just watched it on catch-up. (Kept nodding off last night) I thought it was really good.

Watched it and was gripped, only afterwards I wondered, how did the killer manage to get into the air-con duct, pull the cover back over it AND move the fridge back in front of the entrance????

whitewave Wed 16-Dec-15 20:23:09

Just finished watching it. The cottage owners in the Sussex coast nearish to us must make an absolute fortune as they are always being used.

Ana Wed 16-Dec-15 20:25:08

You're right, trisher - I never thought of that! blush
It seemed like a really heavy fridge as well, as Luther had to actually knock it over rather than shift it out of the way!

(I actually thought he was going to open the door and there'd be various body-parts in it, but that would have been a bit too obvious!)

cornergran Wed 16-Dec-15 20:27:19

Enjoyed it. Noticed the fridge and decided to just be amused. Will watch next week

ninathenana Thu 17-Dec-15 00:27:51

There was nothing to suggest the baddie had gone through the duct that time. Luther saw him for the first time in the bus garage. The fridge was hiding that route for when he needed it.

That's the way I saw it anyway.

Loved it, just wish there were more than 2 episodes, I love gruesome stuff.

trisher Thu 17-Dec-15 08:57:30

so if there was another more obvious way out, as used by villain, why didn't Luther use it?

Teetime Thu 17-Dec-15 11:59:31

I shall have to watch it again next week even though my heart was in my mouth - Oh what have I said? shock

Tegan Thu 17-Dec-15 13:20:48

grin!!!

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 17-Dec-15 13:52:23

Teetime tchgrin !!!

Teetime Thu 17-Dec-15 13:55:30

oops I shall have to watch my tongue!

ninathenana Thu 17-Dec-15 14:27:57

trisher I'm guessing Luther didn't know where the other exit from the duct was.

trisher Fri 18-Dec-15 10:23:37

Not much of a detective then-only good for looking behind the fridge. Dread to think what he'd find if he moved mine!

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 18-Dec-15 13:30:26

I was afraid he was going to open the fridge and it would blow up like the one at the other place did. Although I suppose you couldn't have Luther without Luther.

Ana Tue 22-Dec-15 22:24:18

Well, despite being warned that I might find some scenes 'upsetting' hmm I managed to watch tonight's final episode to the end.

Not going to say much in case some people haven't watched it yet, but although it was gripping and required a lot of concentration I felt the ending was a bit of an anticlimax.

Idris Elba is seriously gorgeous, though...wouldn't mind him in my Christmas stocking! tchwink

ninathenana Wed 23-Dec-15 00:15:38

Did anyone understand the subplot about the dead girl ?
Not a spoiler as this was part of last week's episode.

Pittcity Wed 23-Dec-15 08:24:31

I shouted out "Don't open the fridge!"
There were so many similarities to the Bridge - the murders, the booby trap, the bearded computer guy, the weird detective.
