I confess to being slightly addicted to this weird series. The BBC was going to axe it but a petition to make another series is doing well. Please sign at www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/reverse-the-bbc-s-decision-to-cancel-ripper-street?

It's too gory for me.

I love it, had trouble signing the petition though, but will try again.

I lost track of the story line completely last night amidst all the gore, but I just have to keep watching, it is addictive!

They'd better get rid of that Inspector Shine....never forgave him for killing the Elephant Man!

Caramac Tue 10-Dec-13 21:11:43

I only watched the first episode. I don't mind a bit of gore but snuff movies? I found that very disturbing and haven't watched it since.

Don't remember that one!

Thought I'd bump this up because I gave up on the first series but started watching series 3 when it returned to the BBC and have now bought series one and two to catch up on. Not the programme I thought it was; very dark and gothic; it was most probably becoming a huge fan of Jerome Flynn after seeing him in Game of Thrones that made me give it a second chance.

I would like to know if East London speech would have been so stilted at the time?

Tegan Sun 13-Sept-15 18:26:31

It's a strange language isn't it; must admit that I haven't yet watched my box set as I've been away but, from what I saw in series three it was almost like a made up language/dialect, which is what made me realise it wasn't the sort of programme I thought it was...more other worldly/Titus Groan'y.

POGS Sun 13-Sept-15 19:44:01

I like Ripper Street.

Nothing more to add really. You either do or you don't.

POGS Sun 13-Sept-15 19:44:44

Anybody know when Peaky Blinders back?

Marmark1 Sun 13-Sept-15 19:51:46

Watch it,but haven't a clue what it's about.Can anyone explain.

Marmark1 Sun 13-Sept-15 19:52:33

I like Jerome Flynn too.

Deedaa Sun 13-Sept-15 21:09:51

I've only really got into it during the current series. I rather like the Titus Groan analogy Tegan I've liked Jerome Flynn ever since Soldier Soldier.

POGS; I've realised recently that my family are from Peaky Blinders territory and am going back for a couple of days to frequent the area. Either my dad or my uncle played for a football team based at The Garrison pub; I'm hoping it gives me some kudos within my family! How I wish I'd spoken more to my family about their youth/childhood sad.

Having bought series one and two because I didn't know what was happening in series three, I watched two episodes last night without realising that I was actually watching series two. Maybe I should watch the end of series three and just go backwards confused. I am enjoying it though, in a morbid sort of way. I might start speaking like them at this rate.

Love Ripper Street!!!

Tegan Fri 18-Sept-15 13:24:52

Just watched the episode where Drake proposes to Rose sadsad. Hoping that tonights episode explains what happened to Reid's daughter....[this is a brilliant series!!!]

Marmark1 Fri 18-Sept-15 22:01:22

Well! There you go,watched it all,and it's still clear as mud.

Tegan Fri 18-Sept-15 22:10:05

Shush; I'm still on series one [going to watch the last two episodes series one tonight]. Have now decided it's also like a Spaghetti Western. I did have a tiny peek to see which episode was on tonight...for a while it's going to be like Game of Thrones series 5 with me trying not to find out what happens. But, good to hear that, even if I do find out what happens I won't understand it anyway [I never do understand programmes these days anyway so don't even try..it's made life much easier].smile

It's bonkers, and very gory, but I am a fan. I must say I preferred Whitechapel (also bonkers), and I'd rather that had been revived instead. I still have the last recorded series of Peaky Blinders to watch - DH never got into it, so I need him to bugger off go out for a few hours so that I can enjoy a catch up.

Maggiemaybe Fri 18-Sept-15 22:25:31

You've got kudos from me, Tegan. smile

Tegan Sat 19-Sept-15 10:02:31

Finished series one last night; watched 'the making of' bit of the dvd and they said it 'was' meant to be like a western. Not sure of the timeline but I reckon Peaky Blinders wouldn't have happened without RS and [I hate to say this] I think RP is superior, because of the rather complicated, multi layered storylines. Now for series two. It is loosely based on a police station that was in the area at the time of the ripper murders.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 19-Sept-15 10:11:54

Tegan - you say you 'never do understand programmes these days'. That's because of the programmes you watch! Who the flip does really never stand G of T! grin You have persevered much longer than I did!

As for Ripper Street, I've practically given up trying to follow what's going on. hmm
