Child of our Times

I have recorded this and will hopefully get to watch it soon. I've found the whole series fascinating and realise now that many of my husband's problems probably go back to his babyhood and he really can't help them.

That's true Deeda, those early years are so important, there are certainly things I'd do differently as a Mum if I had my time again.

Felt so sorry for the boy who was bullied (as his Mum had been) but glad after a change of school he is happier.

I really enjoyed what I saw of this show, up to when the children were about four. I would love to watch more of it, but it is not on normal television here (in Australia) and I have tried to find it online.

I would do a few things differently too sunflower, I think most of us would. Still I am very happy with the way my children have turned out and I take full credit.

I love watching this as well. It is like a document of the last twelve years and how society has changed in that short time, as well as the children's lives. I read that 50 per cent of the children had parents who were separated. That seems a huge number. I wonder if the BBC will make the series available on DVD.

It was so lovely seeing the love between the 2 little boys who lived just down the road from their Nan and Grandad - what a happy childhood they have had, with that extra loving element so close. Sad that the Nan has now had to move into care, they seem a lovely family.

What a super boy Parys is - his mother is the brave artist without arms, I'm ashamed to say I can't remember her name. I know she has a full-time carer but she has bought that boy up herself and what a good job she's done.
I'm looking forward to tonight's episode.

I really wish they would repeat the previous programmes.

I love this programme too. My first grandson was born in 2000 as well, so I've enjoyed seeing the children grow up and comparing their experiences. Last night one of the boys said that he preferred to spend his free time with his friends rather than his Mum & Dad. I think this part of the series is showing how children grow up and away from their families. GS1 is certainly becoming an independent teenager rather than a child- it's reassuring to see that they are all at that stage!

Another thought-provoking part of the programme was the Mum who deeply regretted not pursuing her career or earning money of her own.
