If you are only going to use it to look at the X-rays then it would be cheaper to take the disc into a computer shop or maybe your local library and ask them to print the contents.

I second that.
However, you could phone your consultant's secretary and explain that you do not have the facility to read it. They may be able to send you a print of them.
I would not waste money, if you are not going to use the external drive again.

I am reluctant to phone the secretary again, as I've been pestering her for a copy of my xray since SEPTEMBER and that's a whole new story I could regale you with, believe me!
Those are great suggestions, although I'm not quite sure my local town has such shops, apart from PC World on the trading estate or maybe Boots.
I didn't realise such a thing was possible.

I have just had a thought. Our local Asda has a printing service, where you give them the CD and they print your photos. Is there anything like that near you?

Could it be put onto a usb stick instead. Perhaps tablets don't have usb ports. I use a laptop and the only 'tablet' i have is a Kindle.

Tablets need a USB adaptor.

Are there any photographic shops near you? The may be able to extract the files and email them to you or move them onto a flash drive if you have a USB port. I think places like Boots are only really set up to print photos onto paper. There are places like Snappy Snaps but I don't know what they can do. We took some old negatives in and had them put on a flash drive so they may be able to help you, but they send them away usually rather than do them in store.

This era is not for the time of CD or DVD, use have to use cloud storage, which is better then that.
