Invisible emojis

This is bugging me. confusedhmm

?❗️ Anyone else come across this anomaly?

Some emojis being posted as being shown (my end) as a little box like this ⎕ . I'm presuming because the emoji isn't one of the GN list or those I have on my laptop. This is an example from a posting I have just read. There were others.

If so, then how do I set my laptop up to be able to see all that are being posted. I use a MacBook Pro, if that makes any difference.

On my old laptop all non-GN emojis showed as blank squares, but now that I have a new one they are visible. I therefore think it is down to the age or capability of your laptop.

I have this problem when messaging my daughter's i-phone from ny android. She cannot see my emojis.
If I want to add a smiley I have to do it old school :-)

Can see all of them. My mac is just under 2 years old.

Elainel Two ways of getting them. Click on EDIT tab at the top, after FILE - emoji and symbols are one choice towards the bottom of the drop down menu. OR click on pad with first two fingers together and menu will appear. Emoji and symbol choice is at the top.

I go on the Good Morning ( Mick ) thread every day and some, I think, leave a flamingo emoji. All I get is the square.
