'Improvements' I would like made to the site

1. For the 'reply' button under each post on a thread to have a specific function.
For example, for the post that you wish to reply to to automatically be quoted in your response, without you having to cut and paste. That or a 'quote' button that makes the text of a particular post (or of several posts) appear in your reply,

2. For a 'like' button.
To my mind, it is both the easiest and the least cliquish way of expressing one's agreement with what another poster has said.

3. An edit button.
I know it would sometimes mean that people respond to a post that has since been removed or edited, but we are adults and could cope with it, as people do perfectly well on every other forum I have ever used.

When I started typing this, I had a fourth thing in mind too, but it's slipped my mind for now!

I know, but I keep hoping that GNHQ will eventually realize that we are actually mature enough to be trusted with these things, and think again!

I'd like a prompt when someone starts responding to an old thread. A message saying something like: "This thread has been inactive for x months or years. Do you wish to continue?" They do this over on Ravelry. I'm inclined to think that once a week or two has passed with no activity, the thread is dead and it's pointless saying any more.

Fountainpen I agree, it always amazes me when a thread crops up on the active page which has been inactive for sometimes 6 months or more. It only takes a second to check the last date on a thread, so why bother replying confused
I go straight to the Active page, I don't look at individual forums. So I know when a thread is on going.

I sometimes want to see if the OP on a thread that I remember from months ago has added an update on how things panned out.
That is my main reason for trying to find an old thread, and it isn't always easy to do.

As always, we appreciate the feedback. We know that some users would like to see facilities such as a 'like' button or edit function and we promise that we are not ignoring you. While they are small things in themselves, the tech work behind them is huge. Also none of these things are currently available <whispers> over there on Mumsnet so we can't just adapt their tech either. But we are listening - honest - and we'll continue to do so.
