Butty what a wonderful sight. We often watch them if we are in town in the early evening (She sighs as she tries to spell sillohette and fails miserably)sillohetted (sp) against the early sunset.
I'll never forget the first time I saw this. My father had taken us to Beacon Fell in the Trough of Bowland and we sat in the car waiting and fidgeting.... and THEN were awestruck when the waves of starlings began to arrive to use the trees there for their roosts. Millions and millions of them! It is a wonder of the world.
I was once in the centre of Manchester with my brother in law when the starlings flocked like this over Piccadilly. My country living BiL had never seen anything like it (he was about 19) and was really quite spooked.
