Thank you everyone for your kind messages, so nice to be able to tell someone but felt bit silly being so upset when she'd only been away day and night - especially what I said about husband. Anyway when I came back from shopping she came tripping down the garden path purring and ready for food. So relieved

Great news! In my experience they stroll home just after you have put up posters and leafleted the neighbourhood!
My Bengal cat, Saffron went missing for a week a few years ago. Since then she has been going on her 'holidays' about once a month, always returning well fed. She was once seen in the next village about 3 miles away across fields, so guess she goes there. Although she always returns, I am still apprehensive all the time she is away.
Excellent news, honeypot - parr (or should that be purr!) for the course with cats - we've never had one yet that was a stay at home! The cat I referred to in my earlier post was always going awol, and one of my son's cats does too! Doesn't stop you worrying though !

I'm so pleased to hear it! Phew. What I didn't say before was that my cat Teenie (who was huge!) went out one night and was never seen again. It was just awful. I was her special person (she hated DH). It was the not knowing that was the worst. I did meet a lot of kind helpful people during my long fruitless searches 
. That helped.
