Trump tears peace hopes into pieces.

Those were headline in the Metro newspaper, but it just about sums up Trumps latest -

peace ends, bomb to bits, Iran responds, Straits closed, Trump now states he is going to take Greenland, Trump smashes at NATO.

This is my personal view, and I don't want it to distract from other discussions about what is happening in the Middle East and Iran areas

but for me a world without Trump who can turn his defence department into a war cabinet, and consistently talks war war not jaw jaw is forcing the world to all spend more on defence until we are bristling with armaments.

and here we are sweltering in high temperatures with news of dying species and melting ice all over the world, climate change, and cutting our spending on that - instead of stuff like cheap solar panels and even more investments in those industries and alternatives to car use.

Here's the front page I alluded to, I'm sure someone with a more active brain than me today can find more a more succinct statement on the picture as regards Trump and Iran.

Trump has caused what seems to be a never ending war. The US and Iran both saying it wasn't them who broke the ceasefire.
Oil prices have surged again.
Before the war the strait was fully open but now Iran want tolls from ships passing through.
They are annoyed that ships are taking a route that does not pass near Iran so they can't take tolls.
Trump started this and he is walking away with very abusive words for Iran. Calling them scum and cuckoo isn't going to help.
What a mess this one man has made!

This tiresome man is creating such mayhem that when he finally goes it will take the USA decades to become a respected ally once more. If trump wasn’t quite so jealous of everything that Obama achieved, there would never have been a war with Iran. Obama and other leaders had signed an acceptable deal with Iran which trump tore up. I’m not sorry to say this but trump is a sex offender (confirmed by the Supreme Court), a racist, sexist, lying monster.

I completely agree.

It’s very sad times, this needless war has cost many so dearly, financially and other ways.

Trump is a monster, he stated very clearly he’d “stop the Ukrainian and Gaza” wars, not only has he not done this, he’s effectively started a third war.

Fartooold Thu 09-Jul-26 10:49:11

I must admit I am not surprised that man is pure evil!

henetha Thu 09-Jul-26 10:57:10

I am amazed that this can be allowed to happen. America seems more like an oligarchy than a democracy. Can some of his madness not be stopped by the Senate or the House of Representatives?

Cossy Thu 09-Jul-26 11:17:11

Where’s Imaround when we need her?

Hope all is ok with her thanks

Elegran Thu 09-Jul-26 11:17:55

AGAA4 "What a mess this one man has made!" If he wasn't actually planted in US politics byVladimir Putin (or some other hostile power) specifically to break America, he is still making a bloomin' good job of it as an enthusiastic volunteer.

What I can't understand is the logic behind Trump wanting to expand the number of US bases in Europe but also wanting to withdraw support for NATO. Am I being stupid?
Article 5 has only been invoked once, in 2001, following the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers in the USA. There's gratitude for you.

I expect Trump is still feeling sore about Belgium beating the US four goals to one, despite his intervention over the red card.

The great orange one is still making noises about invading Greenland.

Will no-one rid us of this turbulent/troublesome POTUS?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 09-Jul-26 11:24:09

He does seem to be cracking under pressure and scrutiny

He must have info/intel on an awful lot of people not to be challenged more rigorously in Washington…

It’s utterly bizarre

At what stage are the American people going to say enough is enough and demand this demented, evil monster is removed from office? He's obviously a very sick man and the world looks on at his antics with disbelief and horror. Even his sycophants must know he's overstepped every line and he should go before he blows us all to hell and back. None of them have the guts to stand up to him, they stand behind him like grinning, nodding dogs when he spouts his gibberish, it's pathetic.
I just can't understand how he can get away with the abuse and outrageous things he's said to people without someone giving him some back. He certainly doesn't deserve respect for his office because he's a disgrace to his office

A powerful and dangerous man. Not a good mix. To describe the Iranian people as scum is insulting in the extreme.

Iam64 Thu 09-Jul-26 12:09:47

I believe GrannyGravyy is correct, he has information on many powerful people and uses it.
He and his family are increasing their wealth due to his actions during his presidency
I still feel like we are in a Bond movie with the most powerful man in the world as an evil maniac

Moonwatcher1904 Thu 09-Jul-26 12:14:26

I'm watching a tv series on Paramount Plus called The Oval. It's a story about a new US president and his family. It's not so much about politics but the internal goings on about the first family. It makes me wonder how much of the story is based on real facts. Judging by Trump I could believe some of the storylines.
Well worth a watch.

Dickens Thu 09-Jul-26 12:27:00

If as an author you were going to write a fiction about a pathological narcissist, ill-educated in facts, clearly emotionally retarded POTUS with a criminal conviction - who is often barely able to string a short sentence togeher...

... you'd be told the plot-line was too far fetched.

Yet, here we are.

sodapop Thu 09-Jul-26 12:42:21

Still for his supporters he can do no wrong. I talk to family in USA and they think other world leaders should be more like Donald. Heaven help us.
Did he really say " The Islamic Republic of Japan" ?

He was addressing those remarks to Iranian leadership, not the Iranian people.
And they really are scum too.

Trump is Trump, what more can anyone say, but he isn’t always wrong.
Europe does need to spend more on defence, especially us in the UK, as we have recently seen our Naval capabilities are woeful.
With countries like Iran and Russia the West needs to be bristling with armaments!

MollyNew Thu 09-Jul-26 12:53:50

As Sarnia says, the POTUS is powerful and dangerous but he is also ignorant, thin skinned and arrogant. To sit next to Mark Rutte and simply list all the countries he dislikes and the politicians he "gets along with", then call Iran "scum" was pathetic. It demonstrates that he has never grown up and is still that spoilt toddler who always got his own way and probably was the one none of the other kids wanted to play with. He tries to make up for his own inadequacies by using insults and threats.

He sees Greenland and wants it like a child who wants to steal another child's toy. Not because he needs it but because they've got something he doesn't have.

I never wish ill on anyone but he is the exception because his behaviour is having a devastating impact on the whole world.

Apparently, yes.
And he mixed up the names of Putin and Zelenski, didn't he (though later came up with some cock and bull story to try to cover that one up)?
Amongst other things.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 09-Jul-26 13:00:48

What a stupid and mediocre individual he is. He has no other recourse over Iran than negotiate a peace plan, which the utter fool had in Obama’s plan.

Instead he continues to bomb and commit war crime after war crime.

To what effect?

Well, takes scum to know scum.

Wonder what the Pope, an American, truly thinks of the most militarily powerful country on the planet being in the grip of the scummiest leader on the planet?

Oreo Thu 09-Jul-26 13:15:36

Iran are unbelievably murderous to their own people, beatings and summary executions daily. On top of that, bank rolling the many murderous terrorist groups such as hezbollah and hamas which carry out atrocities all over the world as well as the Middle East. The leaders call themselves religious, what a terrible joke that is, so yes they certainly are scum.
