Smart glasses

I feel as you do Fallingstar and wonder if we will ever learn.
The more advanced technology becomes, the greater the risks.

When I was watching this report I couldn't help wondering why common sense never seems to prevail. Why do these glasses look like ordinary glasses? They shouldn't, it should be obvious when someone's wearing them then they wouldn't be able to film us, our children and GC without our knowledge and consent.

Concern is expressed about the number of cctv cameras being an invasion of our privacy but at least we know they are there.

IMO these glasses should be easily identifiable and those that look like ordinary glasses should be banned.

What's new is that they now look like ordinary glasses dotpocka.

Personally, sadly, there will always be people who take advantage of technology for awful and dubious means.

These glasses are very “clever” our choirmasters used them to record some of our sessions, it’s great as they don’t interfere with their conducting and require very little setting up.

Of course, we are completing aware of being filmed and they should never be used covertly.

But they are being used covertly Cossy and if they didn't look like ordinary glasses, they couldn't be.

Yes I agree, but due to their design and convenience this is difficult.

However, there is a light which flashes when filming is taking place and it seems in some of these cases these covert filming have found a way to stop the light showing, which is against the “instructions of use”

Yes they've found a way of preventing the light from being
seen, it's disturbing isn't it.

They are useful for some people who want to film hands free for legitimate reasons and they are helpful for partially sighted people too.

I agree too but do think that by looking like ordinary glasses it makes it too easy for them to be used illegally.

There are upsides to this technology without doubt, but the downsides imho outweigh the upsides. Unless companies make it obvious from the design of the glasses that filming is taking place then the lowest of the low will use these glasses for nefarious reasons. One young woman was saying that there were so many horrible comments made about the illegal video of her that she even had suicidal thoughts.
If there were a petition to either get Smart glasses banned in the UK or their design modified to make filming obvious, I would sign it.

I definitely support the design of these glasses being modified so that if filming's taking place, it can't be hidden Fallingstar.

These were mentioned on the news yesterday. I wonder what on earth is happening to our world where technology is concerned. Surely there has to be some regulation where people and companies are held to account and sites can be permanently closed but you never hear of that happening.
Women and children often bear the brunt of social media abuse and it seems to be getting worse.
The 2 young women on the news who were illegally filmed both received hundreds of vile messages making all sorts of threats and remarks to them. Yet again, it is the weird men who should be ashamed.

I might just do that. Obviously a ban probably won’t get any support but surely modifying the glasses so there is a perhaps a change of colour in the glasses temporarily with a flash of light when filming and no way to override this.

Think these glasses are really plumbing the depths. How awful are they. Creepy men found using them shoild be prosecuted.

The news report was concerning, a man had stopped women telling them they were pretty etc then posted their encounter on social media and other men posted their comments about the woman’s looks, personality and some made salacious remarks about them. Even though there was a light at the top of the frame when the glasses were being used to film the women it was very inconspicuous and apparently it can be turned off. Something else to warn my granddaughters about.

I don't think it's the glasses that are the problem.

I can see lots of benefits.
Some could be life-changing (e.g. "correcting" macular degeneration).

Most people use them to take calls, listen to music, or reply to texts via voice without pulling out a phone. This could actually make people safer.

Most can translate - whisper the translation into your ear or project subtitles directly onto the lens.
This subtitling could be great for deaf /hard of hearing..

You could also read notes while giving presentations without having to hold them/have them in front of you and navigate around places without looking at a map/phone.

​"Point-of-View" videos (like cooking, mechanics, medical procedures etc) so you can see what the demonstrator sees.
A technician/surgeon etc can "share" their view with an expert in another place. The expert can then draw, say an arrow on the the display and talk to the person attempting the procedure. Scans and x rays etc can be superimposed over the patient in surgery...

I get that NotSpaghetti but one woman or child exploited sexually online is one too many. Is not the glasses are the users, but seeing as social media is never adequately policed there will am sure be more cases.
As I said on second thoughts, due to advantages, these glasses cannot be banned, but those producing them need to make it totally obvious when these glasses are filming with no chance to override how obvious it is.
