As I read it, the dispute is about bringing the way the refuse collectors work in Birmingham City Council in line with how they work in other local authorities. As Oreo said, BCC has had a lot of issues, and it appears that the departmental staff, supported by the Union, have created roles that don’t exist elsewhere. Now the Council has decided that they want working patterns and pay rates to return to the norm, there is a dispute about roles and pay protection. Is that what those who know more than I do about this than I do think has brought them to this point?
