Hexham Hospital and NO mask for Johnson.

The rules are that you wear a mask in a hospital or at the GP Surgery. That means everyone, whoever they are.

Typical Boris. Rules don't apply to him.

According to a story in the Mirror he was asked three times to put his mask on.

I despair when I hear of Johnson’s boorish behaviour at every turn. His behaviour is that of a naughty toddler stamping his foot in defiance. What an example from a PM supposedly leading the country through a health crises!

Also the suspicion that this photo op visit was just an excuse not to be in the HoC for the sleaze debate. He could easily have got a private jet back in time, or is that just for important dinners with chums?

No doubt someone will be along soon to defend his behaviour. Is he trying to imply Covid is no longer a problem ?

Although it seems the board of the hospital say he did then put a mask on when asked to.They are being criticised now for seemingly excusing him. Who knows ? I just don’t get however why he has to be asked

It leaves me wondering does he have any advisors in his inner circle. Or does he maybe just choose to ignore them.

He’d just come from cop26 in Glasgow where he’d been circulating in a crowded venue backslapping and elbow bumping his way around. Rather poor judgement to follow that up with a photo op in a hospital.

I was just wondering if he came from Newcastle to Hexham by train just to make the journey as time consuming as possible ?

The ploy didn't really work, though. He was back in London a good hour or so before the debate ended. He had plenty of time to get to Parliament...

I mentioned on another thread that he looked overweigtht and breathless at an appearance at COP - it was a longish walk from his car then across a stage or something, then took his mask off and he seemed to be breathing heavily.

Maybe after having Covid he finds masks difficult, in which case he would be exempt, but of course he would never admit to that.

He always looks ill at ease in a mask.

Oh come on, Riverwalk, you're talking about a man at peak fitness. Doesn't he go jogging every morning? We saw pictures of him doing it at Conference time... ?

Though I do understand that the excuse of Long covid could cover a lot of his boorish behaviour...

Maybe he does have a problem wearing a mask just as DH does. The difference is that DH wears one going to the GP, on the bus and yesterday having our Covid booster. DH has had breathing problems ever since Covid plus a heart murmur.

Johnson should be leading by example, not one rule for him and another rule for others. If he isn’t able to wear one for health reasons perhaps he should tell us all. He’s a very poor excuse for a PM.

Boris said he was going to loose weight after Covid. I don’t see any sign of that but it would definitely help his breathing.

If it's true (I never quite believe all I read in the media) that he was asked a couple of times to put on his mask - did so and then removed it - it's just another illustration of his contempt for the norms and standards of behaviour that we expect from our ministers and politicos. Witness also the photo' of him at the COP26 meeting where he is sitting, maskless, next to other older and therefore more vulnerable attendees. I'm sure he doesn't feel comfortable in a face mask and that's understandable, but others managed it and if he had any respect for them, he could have too.

I don't think Johnson genuinely cares much about anything other than his own personal ambition and believe that he is a ruthless, determined, entitled, individual. He can, and does, do what he wants because he has the support of his majority, many of whom I suspect will forgive or ignore his failings because he has given them what they craved.

I'm not simply 'Boris bashing' - I never like to believe that anyone is wholly, irredeemably a bad person, but I cannot find anything about the man that speaks of compassion, empathy, understanding or consideration for others, or care for the general 'wellbeing' of the nation as a whole. I don't think he's evil or even deliberately nasty, but I do believe he's an unsparing, ego-driven, manipulator, so I am not at all surprised that he didn't obey the rules that applied to everyone else at Hexham.

Where I live it is any healthcare setting, I'm in SW England. So pharmacy, dentist, GP, physio clinic and GP are all places I've been where masks are required unless you are exempt.

Maybe I dreamt it but I think they showed a clip on the news last night where he was asked to put it on and did. Or it might have been someone handing him the mask. I was testing GS for a history test at school today so was only half watching.

I seem to have visited the GP twice there, sorry, to balance it up I did miss the podiatrist (not for me DH is diabetic and goes regularly and I'm his carer.)

When anything like this happens Johnson always refers us back to what his advisors have told him. Am I the only one to be a little perturbed that the man who is supposed to be running the country seems to have permanent advisors to tell him things that anyone else would think were common sense? I saw someone describing him as grotesque - I thought that was the perfect word.

But he certainly was not wearing one in the photo' of him striding along the corridor, nor at the COP26 meeting when he sat next to Attenborough. And he doesn't wear one in the HoC.
