Why should it matter if male or female. It should be the people best fitted to the job. If people are voting for candidates just on the grounds of gender they don't deserve to be voting.

I don't think the media helped by referring to Downing Street as 'the catwalk'!

Although I'm irritated by the fact that women in politics is enough to become news headlines, the sad fact is it had to happen this way.

Whether the presence of women will attract votes depends, I suppose, on how well the Party does before the election. I think the fact that DC has brought in Philip Hammond, a known Euro-sceptic, is more of a vote catcher imo.

It matters because unless women are brought in to the top level, they will never be able to learn to function (in politics) at a high level and it is, imo, long overdue; I tire of a male dominated world - especially when you look at the state it's in!

Who are the new men in the Cabinet? Are we going to get a catwalk of all of them, where they bought their suits, shirts, whether their ties are pure silk and how they tie them (Eton knot?), whether they wear socks - oh, was that a flash of suspender we saw?

What size is Philip Hammond, a 38" or 40" chest, anyone know? Any paunches around, do they have stay-at-home wives looking after any children

In fact, I think there should only be more women in the cabinet if they have the ability, so I hope they will now prove themselves more than capable of doing a good job. Let's hope we don't have constant pictures in the media of their clothes, their hairstyles and whether or not they have house-husbands, children, nannies or whatever!

I suspect that when there are more women, and they cease to be a novelty, in politics, it will stop rosesarered - it just highlights that even though the media are 'heralding' the arrival of more women into Downing Street, yet they are still treating those women as though their appearance and whether they have children or not is more important than what their skill sets are.
