Medium risk share portfolio.

We were recommended to a local IFA after we had sold MiL's house and our endowment mortgage paid up and he has about doubled our original investment over the last ten or so years.

I’d always choose an ISA as the first port of call, as it’s tax free, so even though the interest rate might be slightly lower, if you pay tax it will be the best option.

Just been reading that Premium Bonds have had another big hike and they are now better than many savings accounts. I bought another load yesterday so looks like I did right.

I suppose it depends on your age and what you’re investing/saving for and how much you have to invest. All ISA interest is tax free but Martin Lewis pointed out that if one isn’t even a basic taxpayer, then a high yielding account would outweigh an ISA. (He used a student in the studio as an example).
It really is a minefield in some cases and an IFA might be your best bet to explain risk, etc.

Some people are risk takers and some (like us) are not. Our savings are in premium bonds and NS&I isas. We also bought a small house and DS2 and family are our tenants. No mortgage, thankfully.
