I agree. I'm looking for better places to put my savings too.

I am about to sell my house, but will not be buying straight away so am looking for the best place to lodge the proceeds, short term, where they can earn the best return. Any ideas welcome! £££

We have the same problem. DH will not have anything linked to the stock market as we have been scalded in the past with investments of that kind. Even long term bond rates are not fantastic.

I earn much more interest in my current account than my ISA was paying so I have used some of that money and put the full amount I can earn interest on in my current account, it makes sense to me.

We had a bond mature last year. The money is now sitting in a savings account doing nothing because I don't see the point of moving it for the sake of an extra 0.5% or so.

We looked everywhere for a decent return and found nothing and in the end decided ERNIE just may be nice to us to opted for Premium bonds so far no good but we live in hope

I think premium bonds have a lot to offer.Safe. Get money back very quickly if you need it and you MAY win a prize or two.

I won 3 x £25 this month and £25 last month so I am happy. Next month it will definitely be a million.

We are also considering what to do. DH has just bought more premium bonds as, at least, he has had regular winnings in the past.....and hopes for more. He doesn't always tell me, however!

Last year DH closed one of our smaller BS accounts which had flatlined and used the money to buy some Brittanias, which are an ounce of pure gold. They have done quite well, apart from a dip at the time of the US inauguration. They are something for the long term. We've buried them in the garden and drawn a map! ?

Yesterday we had an appointment with our financial advisor. One year ago our FA on our behalf invested a sum via Aviva but it was not an Aviva product.

As insisted upon by us, it was a 'cautious fund'. In just less than one year our net gain has been 7%. Net meaning after the management and setting up fees for the fund have been deducted. There is no time limit and no penalty for encashment.
We have been with this FA for 11 years. Certainly we're not rich but want to make the most of what savings we have.
We are delighted with 7%.

Our day to day savings account might as well be in the kitchen drawer, but it is available for emergency and easy access.

I decided that if I was getting a poor return, then at least my money would do some good - and I put a chunk in my local Credit Union - got 3% last year.
