Wasps

Wasps do not usually retun to their nests, so I would leave it and they shouldn't come back to te same nest next year.

I actually thought the same as you did Monica and I found two nests this week - still very active. I called a pest exterminator man and he said that yes you could just leave them at this time of year, however, it means that there will be more Queens produced for next year!!

Does anyone know what wasps are for?

The eat the grubs of various pests, but their main purpose is to make more wasps and continue the species.

Yes, that's rather what I suspected Elegran - and apart from procreation, it would seem their other main raison d'être is to annoy the hell out of the human race

My daughter had one in her loft last year I left it to November there was no sign of life by then and then I destroyed it They are so pretty the nests I mean not the horrible wasps They haven’t returned I understood they do not return to the same place

We have what seems like an endless supply of wasps just now (free to a good home if anyone would like them?) and I have no idea where they are coming from. They appear 1 or 2 at a time on a couple of windows, but fortunately they're a bit sleepy. We have had nests in the eaves, but they are coming into places with no connection to the eaves (where is Agatha Christie when you need her for a sealed room mystery?) and I'm going about with a rolled-up newspaper for whacking purposes.

Next year we are using one of these repeller things you plug in, and outside we are going to hang up Waspinators (can't do links, just google; they do work) or stuffed plastic/builder's bags all round the place. It will look odd, but perhaps the wasps will go elsewhere.

Apparently they are very useful for pollination and for eating pests in the spring, but become a nuisance when the adults don't need to feed the young any more.

I found several wasps in a spare bedroom when I was cleaning today - all staggering round on their last legs. I've no idea how they got there as the window has been closed for weeks. Off to check the loft in the morning! Eek!

Over the years we've had a couple of wasps nests removed by the council. They do it free of charge for pensioners. We'll ours do.
